/ Caitríona Ruane, MLA for South Down is a Sinn Féin politician, the Principal Deputy Speaker of the Northern Ireland Assembly and a member of the Northern Ireland Assembly.
In the First Executive she was appointed Minister of Education.
Caitríona’s key interests lie in human rights issues and community development. / /
Kate Ruddock is Policy and Campaigns manager at Friends of the Earth and campaigns for policy and legislative changes to support the transition to a community centred renewable energy future.
Previously Kate has worked as an environmental educator at the Rediscovery Centre, and an environmental consultant developing wind energy projects in Scotland.
/ Duncan Stewart, an award-winning architect and television producer, Duncan has been a leading Irish advocate for environmental, health and conservation issues for over 40 years.
Duncan is driven by his interest in the protection of our environment, Ireland’s biodiversity, supporting local communities and the communication of climate issues. / / John Barry, Professor of Green Political Economy, School of Politics, International Studies and Philosophy at QUB. A Green Party politician and a councillor on Ards and North Down Borough Council since 2014.
An author on sustainable development, environmental policy and the economics of sustainability. He is co-editor of two academic journals, Environmental Politics and Eco-Politics Online.
/ Eamonn McCann, MLA for Foyle is a People Before Profit Alliance politician.
A Writer and Journalist, Eamonn was elected MLA for Foyle in 2016. He has been campaigning for social justice in Derry for more than 40 years.
A lifelong socialist and trades unionist, he is a member of the National Executive of the NUJ and of the Northern Ireland Committee of the ICTU. / / Síle Headen is Director of Pastoral Care & Ceremonies with The Humanist Association of Ireland.
Síle has a background in Natural Science and the Protection of the Environment. A scientist, entrepreneur and community activist. Síle’s key focus is altruism.
Being raised in a rural Ireland with every day oversight of sustainable living and care of the environment gave Síle an early passion for Nature.

MC for the evening: Brian Whiteside

Brian Whiteside has been a member of the HAI since 2002 – He retired from a career in business around this time and became a celebrant in 2006. Brian has been to the forefront of all our HAI campaigns and is an ambassador for Humanism in Ireland. Brian lives near the sea in Dun Laoghaire where he loves to walk and spend time with family and friends when he’s not organizing or conducting ceremonies. Brian is a natural raconteur and shares a genuine heartfelt delight for this our 14th All Ireland Humanist Summer School event.
