INSTRUCTIONAL GOALS

1.  To achieve success in all content area classes.

2.  To develop and reinforce study and organizational skills.

3.  To promote student responsibility and personal life skills.

4.  To prepare students to be college and career ready.

ORGANIZATION OF INSTRUCTION

1.  In addition to working on homework for other classes, parts of some classes may include teacher-directed lessons addressing study skills, organizational skills, career-related skills, college readiness skills, and individual needs.

2.  Students will use a daily planner to record assignments in their other classes.

3.  The remainder of the class period will be independent study of content area assignments with teacher assistance and guidance available to each student.

4.  Progress will be monitored routinely. You will be able to check your student’s progress in all classes using Infinite Campus. Students will be taught how to access this information.

5.  The individual goals of each student will be addressed and modifications made as necessary. Consultation and communication with content area teachers will be used to assist each student.

This class is not just for homework. All daily activities must be completed to receive a passing grade in class.

STUDENT RESPONSIBILITIES

1.  Each student is responsible for bringing all necessary materials to class daily.

2.  Active participation in all teacher-directed and independent activities is required.

3.  Each student is expected to use time in class for academic success.

4.  Each student is expected to behave in an appropriate manner that enhances the

learning of the student and does not interfere with the learning of others.

5.  No food in class please. Electronics will be allowed at teacher discretion and this privilege may be revoked at anytime with or without teacher warning.

GRADING PROCEDURES

1.  Grades will be maintained on the Infinite Campus system.

2.  For each F you have in a class, your grade in Study Skills will drop by approximately 1 letter grade.

3.  You will receive a weekly participation grade. Not using class time for assignments, tardies, excessive restroom breaks, and other misbehavior will result in this grade being lowered.
