Reporting to:Land Management Co-ordinator

Supervising:Indigenous Workshop staff

Location:Based Kabulwarnamyo Outstation with significant and regular travel throughout the Warddeken IPA

  1. Remuneration and entitlements

Remuneration:salary $80,000 to $90,000per annum dependent on skills and experience

Annual leave:6 weeks

Sick leave: 2 weeks (in accordance with personal leave policy)

Roster:The Mechanical Support Officerwill be one of a number of Key Employees working a roster based on 160 hours worked in a 28 day cycle.

Superannuation:in accordance with the Superannuation Guarantee (Administration) Act 1992 (currently 9.5%)

Travel arrangements: designated location for rostered days off is Darwin. Sixteenhours travel for RDOs is counted within the 160 hour standard hours for each roster cycle.

Accommodation:A well serviced safari tent at Kabulwarnamyo Outstation.

  1. Work place description

Employer:Warddeken Land Management is an Indigenous owned, not for profit company limited by guarantee.

Location:This position will be based at the Kabulwarnamyo Outstation in western Arnhem Land within the Warddeken Indigenous Protected Area.

Alcohol:Kabulwarnamyo Outstation and the Warddeken workplace is alcohol free and staff are expected to respect this at all times.

  1. Key Responsibilities

(a)Maintain Warddeken Land Management Plant and Equipment

This positionwill be responsible for the coordination and execution of the service and repair of all Warddeken Land Management Plant and Equipment and the general operation of the Kabulwarnamyo workshop. At times this will require travel to other locations including but not limited to Manmoyi workshop, other outstations and remote locations within the IPA.

It is foreseeable that at times repairs will need to be conducted in remote locations without the support of a fully equipped work shop.

These core duties also specifically include:

-The Coordination of regular and timely servicing of all plant and equipment

-Coordination of all registrations and other related licencing

-Execution of the maintenance and repair of Warddeken Plant and Equipment

-Maintenance and replenishment of an appropriate parts store

-Maintenance and replenishment of all necessary workshop consumables

-Maintenance of a safe working environment

-Ensuring that the work shop facilities are safe and functional and that Dangerous Goods are appropriately stored

The current Plant and Equipment includes:

-7 Toyota Land Cruiser Utilities (HZJ79R)

-5 Toyota Land Cruiser Troopcarriers (HZJ78R)

-1 Toyota Land Cruiser Wagon (HZJ100)

-1 Toyota Hilux utility

-130G Caterpillar Grader

-930 Caterpillar Loader

-Isuzu 6X4 Tipper

-Isuzu FSS500

-1 John Deere Tractors (5520)

-1 Kubota Tractor (M9540DH)

-4 Honda Quads (500FM)

-Numerous small plant and engines including pumps, chainsaws, blowers etcetera

(b)Supervision and training of Indigenous staff

Together with the Land Management Co-ordinatorthe Mechanical Support Officerwill:

  • Daily supervise a number of Indigenous rangers to assist in the maintenance of all Warddeken Plant and Equipment.
  • Deliver on-the-job training in mechanical repair and maintenance to Indigenous staff where appropriate.

(c)Other Duties

The Mechanical Support Officerwill be required to undertake with supervision a wide range of other duties from time to time as directed.This may include but is not limited to the following activities:

-Fire management, including the lighting and suppression of fires within the IPA

-Feral animal management, including the destruction of feral animals including Buffalo, Cattle, Pigs, Feral Apis bees and other animals

-Weed management, including the application of chemicals and mechanical removal of weed species to control their spread

-Operate heavy plant including loaders, tractors, trucks and graders

-Logistics including the planning of deliveries and transport of people/goods within the IPA

-Maintenance and construction of infrastructure
