WAMSAO Transportation Policy

1. Transportation is the responsibility of the athlete's parent/guardian to any and all games and practices.

2. Parents may arrange carpools or busing at their own discretion.

3. If parents coordinate and hire a bus to transport student athletes to away games WAMSAO must be made aware that the team is using busing. An adult 18 years or older must be present on any bus with student athletes. Coaches and Assistant Coaches will not be responsible to ride any bus with a team as the busing is not a function or responsibility of the WAMSAO.

4. If a parent plans on allowing their child to walk home from a practice/game they must submit written permission to this effect beforehand to the team's coach. Walker Permission Form can be found at FORMS.

5. Parents are expected to pick up their child at the end of a practice/game in a timely fashion. WAMSAO follows the district policy for school dismissal and Third Party Transportation Services. See Superintendent Nick Markarian’s letter dated Sept. 2, 2017:

• Third party transportation providers are not vetted or insured by the school district. The district has no oversight or responsibility for the transportation provided or the driver. The district does not perform background checks on drivers, verify their insurance levels, ensure that they are properly licensed or inspect their vehicles.
• It may be necessary for you to communicate your plans and to provide authorization to the school in order for the school entity to release your child to a third party transportation provider.
• In some cases, if the identity of a driver, or their authority to drive a pupil is impossible to confirm, we may not be able to release the pupil from the school activity.

WAMSAO is not responsible or liable for any transportation that is arranged by a parent for their child.

6. If a student is not picked up in a timely fashion, a coach may call the police to pick up the child, and parents will have to retrieve their child from the police station. Repeated violations of this policy will result in the student being dismissed from the team. This is at the sole discretion of the WAMSAO Executive Board.
