Wallingford Festival of Cycling on Sunday 21st June

We are launching an exciting new major event in Wallingford with the aim of getting people cycling, whilst at the same time, entertaining our community through some elite racing, encouraging safer riding for children and promoting our wonderful town centre. We are expecting big crowds with people coming from far and wide to take part or watch, especially now we have a film crew from the hit ITV series Midsomer Murders filming the event as part of an episode around cycling! Events in the morning focus on riding in the lanes, paths and villages of Oxfordshire, whereas events from 12 noon to 5.30 pm are on a closed road circuit around the town centre which will require 2 km of barriers to be erected.

How you can help? - Be a ‘Race Maker’

We need around 150 helpers to make the event safe and fun. We will call our helpers ‘Race Makers’who will help for a period of 2 - 4.5 hours (training given where needed). Race Makers will need to be over 18 years old and will become part of a special club. Without such help we would not be able to put on our event. Race Makers get a T-Shirt depending on which task they are allocated and will receive free refreshments, an item from one of the BBQ’s being run on the day and an invitation to the post event party to be held in the Garden/Restaurant of the Dolphin pub in Wallingford, who is one of the major sponsors of the whole day. Food and alcoholic drinks at the end of the day party will be an additional charge.

Tasks include race marshals, stewarding, hospitality, barrier erection/dismantling, event administration, car park monitoring, community team (helping vulnerable people get cars in and out), additional first aiders, pit area monitors, helpers for the children’s races and much more. We need people of all ages, experience, size and ability as there are tasks for all.

Planning a really busy day!

Anyone planning to do the 50 Km Sportive, 12 mile Mountain Bike, 17 mile Mountain Bike Ride or the Wallingford Rides on the main town centre circuit can still help out as we will have two main shifts of Stewards which are from 10.45 am to 2.45 pm and 2.15 to 6.45 pm. For Stewards doing these shifts there will be a relief team offering breaks.

Please go to or email to register as a Race Maker or call 01491 821936.

Your help will be hugely appreciated,

Tony Sefton
