Attention Parents/Players - Playoffs

Another soccer season is drawing to a close. All divisions are into playoffs, and we are getting ready for the year-end activities on Thursday, August 15th (U4 and U15) and Saturday, August 17th (U6, U8, U10, U12). Please note:

  • A round robin format is being used for the playoffs in all divisions. All teams participate in the round robin. During the round robin, games may end in a tie. Teams will earn 3 points for a win and 1 point for a tie. (Any games cancelled because of weather will be recorded as a 0-0 tie and teams will get a point each). Note that there is no overtime during the round robin.
  • Excepting the U15 division, round robin play will end on either August 14th or 15th. At that time, the results will be calculated. Four teams per age division will play in the semi-finals, which will be held on August 17th. The two winning teams from the semi-finals will meet in the championship final, and the other two teams will play in the consolation final. Rules for determining a winner in these games are contained in the 2012 WMSA Handbook. All championship finals and consolation finals will be held on August 17th (excepting U15).

All games on Saturday, August 17th, except where noted

  • The U4 division banquet will take place on Thursday August 15th at 6:45pm at the Naughton Community Centre. There are no scrimmages on Saturday August 17th.
  • The U12 division schedule is not yet complete and will be sent to coaches as soon as possible by the Convenor. Our apologies for the delay.
  • The U15 division will end on Thursday August 15th with a banquet after the games are completed at Hillcrest.
  • If playoff games are cancelled in advance (e.g. due to extreme humidity or thunderstorms), a notice will be posted on the by 4:30 p.m. for early games and by 6:00 p.m. for later games.

Year-End Banquet

All teams in all divisions are invited to attend the year-end banquet at Kinsmen Sports Complex (Hillcrest fields) on Saturday, August 17th, regardless of whether they are playing on that day or not. All players will receive pizza, juice and a medal for the year. Please note the times for the banquets for each division in the above table. Pizza, juice and water will be available for purchase by other attendees.

Donation of Used Soccer Items

In 2012, Walden Minor Soccer Association collected gently used soccer jerseys, shorts, socks, shin pads, shoes and balls and donated them to a school in the Dominican Republic. WMSA also donated gently used shin pads and shoes to Adamsdale Public School in Sudbury to start a soccer program.

We do not have a charity recipient at this time for used clothing for the 2013 season. If you know of anyone collecting jerseys and shorts, please email . We would like to support collection of clothing again in 2013.

We hope all players have enjoyed their soccer season this year. As we are sure you are aware, it takes many volunteers to make this happen. We would like to thank all the coaches and assistant coaches who stepped forward, as well as our young referees for their hard work this year. We would also like to thank Rayside-Balfour Soccer Association for sharing our U12 and U15 divisions with us this year, and Nickel Centre Soccer Club and Espanola Soccer Club for working with us to create a U18 league this year. Finally, a really big thank you to all our sponsors. Their support is important to being able to keep registration costs for WMSA at a reasonable rate.

The 2013 season was another successful season due to the hard work of all our volunteer coaches. Please take the time to thank your coach.

We hope that you will consider taking on a leadership role in soccer for 2014, whether as a coach or as a member of our Executive. WMSA is a volunteer organization, and in 2013 saw our league have more than 600 children playing soccer in Walden.
