Wacky Weekdays – Summer Fun

BACKGROUND

One can create crafts from objects found around the house.

Different animals that live on farms.

WHAT TO DO

Popsicle Stick Animals

1.  Pass out about three popsicle sticks to each kid, paintbrushes, and paints.

2.  Have them paint the popsicle stick like a farm animal; chicken, cow, horse, or pig.

3.  Let dry.

4.  When the paint is dry, use glue and craft foam for animal ears and noses.

5.  Glue googley eyes on for the animals’ eyes.

6.  Let dry.

Fish (Kit)

1.  Pass out a fish and a paintbrush to each child.

2.  Spread paint canisters out evenly along the table.

3.  Have the children paint their fish.

4.  Allow to dry.

Optical Illusion

1.  Pass out tack-board with pre-made circles drawn onto it—one per child—, and markers.

2.  Have the children use the markers to color a picture or design on one side and a different or slightly different color or design on the other side.

3.  Cut two pieces of yarn and put one through one hole each.

4.  Then tie the two ends of the yarn so each yarn has been knotted separately.

5.  Have the children wind the optical illusions by holding onto the yarn, a separate strand in each hand, and loop it jump rope fashion until the yarn is twisted.

6.  To view the illusion have the youth pull slightly on the yarn strands they are holding so that the paper circle spins.
