VP Series Carbon Filter

GENERAL SYSTEM DESCRIPTION

General Description

The carbon filter designed and manufactured for industrial applications. They are rugged, pre-engineered, pre-assembled catalog units that minimize expensive installation and start-up costs. They require simple utility connections and media loading for immediate online service. Their simple design maximizes the efficiency and repeatability of the unit during the service and regeneration modes in order to provide a truly reliable water treatment unit.

Mechanical Description

The carbon filters consist of steel pressure vessel that contains granular activated carbon media. The pressure vessels are sandblasted, lined and painted with a durable epoxy material. The piping is constructed of Schedule 80 PVC or Schedule 40 galvanized steel. Complete piping from the inlet to the outlet of the filter vessel is provided. All automatic valves are hydraulically actuated using feedwater pressure. Four structural steel legs designed for seismic zone 4 support each vessel. Duplex units are supplied with a structural steel beam frame under the vessel legs and manual isolation valves for the feedwater and product water.

Electrical Description

A highly reliable solid-state controller is used to control the operational sequences and monitor the performance of the carbon filter. Opening and closing of the process valves is accomplished using feedwater as the motive fluid and a stager pilot valve located in the control enclosure. All electrical components are contained within a NEMA 4X FRP enclosure. The day and time of backwash are easily set.

Operational Description

The carbon filter has two modes of operation, Service and Backwash. When the day and time of the pre-set backwash is reached, the filter controller will automatically begin the backwash sequence. Afterwards, the filter will return to the Service mode. The backwash mode has two steps, Backwash and Rinse. Step times for the Backwash and Rinse are easily adjustable on the controller.

Duplex systems will operate in parallel fashion. In the parallel fashion, both filters will be in the Service mode. At the pre-determined time or event, each filter will backwash independently, maintaining at least one filter in the Service mode providing a continuous, uninterrupted supply of filtered water.
