Managed by:Laura Sparrow

Team: Legacy & In Memory Team, Fundraising

Location:London Bridge

About us

We fight to help more men to survive prostate cancer and enjoy a better quality of life. We support men, find answers and lead change by supporting anyone who chooses to fundraise for us in memory of a loved one or by leaving a gift in their Will to Prostate Cancer UK. Last year we received over £700,000 from supporters who donated in memory of a loved one and over £2.2 million from supporters who remembered us with a gift in their Will.

Background information

We need a volunteer to help us with light clerical and administrative duties and thanking our In Memory & Legacy supportersin our busy London Bridge based office. We also need support with our special Tribute Funds – online pages set up by supporters to fundraise and commemorate a loved one’s memory.

This role is ideal for anyone who would like to gain experience in fundraising.

  • Ordering materials
  • Calling supporters to thank them for their support

We would also hope to involve you in relevant tasks and projects to suit your interests and skills.

What skills and personal qualities do I need?

  • Empathy and compassion
  • Flexibility to deal with a range of tasks
  • Excellent written communication skills
  • Be able to work on your own or as part of a team

What skills and experiences will I gain from this role?

Our team works in two areas – Legacy and In Memory.

a)Legacy Fundraising – This is when a supporter has left us (or is interested) in leaving us a gift in their Will.

b)In Memory Fundraising – This is where the supporter has lost a loved one and they are fundraising in their memory.

Your role will see both sides of our work. You’ll get to see how we work with our legacy supporters to bring in money helping to support the work of the charity and how we support those who have lost a loved one. We pride ourselves on our compassion and personal touches to show our supporters how much we care and you will have the opportunity to be a part of this.

Apart from that warm fuzzyfeeling from helping a charity and helping those who have lost a loved one, you will help strengthen or develop administration skills, your communication skills and team working skillswhich can be applied across a variety of roles. Plus you’ll gain experience of managing your time effectively, working both in a team and independently.
