About us
STARS are a drug and alcohol recovery servie working with adults affected by recreational and dependant drug and/or alcohol use within the Southend area. All clients are provided with an opportunity to enter a treatment system which offers support and specialist knowledge regarding the affects of addiction and offer clear objectives as to how they can work towards a drug-free life and look to a brighter future, from engagement, through to treatment, prescribing to aftercare.
Purpose of the role:
The Foundations of Recovery Volunteer will support service users through drug and alcohol treatment by providing key work and care coordination. An aspect of this role will involve contribution to the review, design and delivery of new groups/workshops and supporting STARS service in the delivery of these groups. You will also be required to provide administrative support.
Role Description:
To offer information and discussion withservice users regarding their treatment options
To provide accurate and evidence based Harm minimization information
Relapse Management support and advice
Shadow and contribute Groups
Preparation of group room prior to taking place
Preparation of group / workshop material
Texting reminders to service users of upcoming Groups
Typing up notes following Groups
Updating trackers
Evaluate delivery in line with Foundations of Recovery
Review delivery in line with Foundations of Recovery
Maintaining a clean and tidy environment
Promote Foundations of Recovery
Advocacy
Promotion of Mutual Aid Support Groups
Weekly Check In’s with named service users
Handholding / linkage with external organizations
Visible Recovery
Basic office duties
For those with interest/ability: Provide IT support
Assist and support groups to encourage, increase knowledge and confidence around employment training and education to service users
Provide peer support groups
Follow up clients non-attendance
For those with Interest/Skills: Develop Complimentary Therapy workshop / Group Delivery
Person Specification:
Ability to communicate clearly and effectively
Understanding and ability to implement safe and contained personal and professional boundaries
Basic computer and keyboard skills
Some basic office experience would be an advantage
Able to respect and maintain confidentiality
Willingness to attend regular supervision and undertake work related accreditation
Willingness to undergo regular training
Time Commitment:
For this particular post we ask that you are available for two to three days a week, evening & weekend opportunities are available.
