VOLUNTEER FUNDRAISING OFFICER
Title: Volunteer Fundraising Officer
Reports to: ‘CAUSE YOU CAN’s Project Lead (PL)
Purpose of the Role:
- To identify relevant funding opportunities toexpandCYC’scurrent funding base
- To support the PL with writing bids and other aspects of the application process
- To assist CYC with developing and implementing a strategic Funding Planin order to secure new income streams, especially those which are sustainable in the long term.
Workload: 2-3 hours a week, depending on needs.
Tasks
- Identify new funding opportunities that closely fit CYC's mission, vision, aims and outcomes (beyond community grants) such as:
a)Statutory commissioning, includingCouncil and Local Education Authorities (LEAs), Greater London Authority (GLA), NHS and their charities, Social Services...
b)Non-statutory funding, especially Public, Free or Sustainable schools and Academies, Pupils Referral Units (PRU) private and voluntary organisations, Housing organisations...
c)Business and corporate sponsorship; only businesses who do not harm people or the planet and whose Corporate Social Responsibilities (CSRs) are in line with CYC’s values;
d)Potential donors and philanthropists, including Patrons who can help with raising the profile of CYC, advertising the work that we do and make strategic funding appeals. There is an expectation that the person in this role would take steps to begin working with them e.g. contact their PA or Marketing team, or think of other ways to reach out to them.
- Help to draft, review and update an influential and convincing ‘narrative’, highlighting CYC's aims, outcomes, engagement and operational strategies, that can be used to fill-in parts of funding applications (yetspecific criteria for each bid will still need to be carefully considered).
- Strategically identify the most relevant criteria in funding applications; shape CYC's material to best fit the needs of funders without compromising on our values and ethos and work with the Board to do this; develop an understanding of the 'secrets' to winning funding (on-going).
- Set up an effective and user- friendly tracking system (e.g., Gantt chart or Online Calendar) to record progress on funding applications, keep sight of dealings and successful applications.
- Update CYC's current directory of funders and funding opportunities; review Excel database.
- Help to design online fundraising campaigns and recruitment initiatives; provide advice and support to create effective fundraising and media events, e.g. concerts with supporting artists and/orpublic figuresand how to approach them, ‘performance dinners’, art exhibitions...
- Attend Board meetings to work with Directors/Trustees and provide regular updates.

- Excellent written skills, with the ability to produce concise, creative and compelling funding applications, proposals or bids; ability to provide and receive constructive feedback from/to all stakeholders, including Board members.

- Meticulous attention to detail, ensuring all key elements and relevant data is included in funding bids and applications and that all opportunities are considered within deadlines.

- Organise activities efficiently; monitor progress and implementation of the strategyand activities against set targets or agreed deadlines; devise contingency plans.

Experience
Essential:
- Bid writing
- Stakeholder relationship management
Desirable:
- Knowledge of UK Trusts, Foundations and Corporate Giving (CSRs) in general
- Experience of sitting on an executive or non-executive Board:
- Knowledge of Contracts and VAT Issues
- Flexible working hours, on occasion
- Knowledge of or interest in Performing arts, Filmmaking and Child education.
