Monday

  1. Complete your totem section. Be sure your attached pieces are stable and sturdy.
  2. Your teacher will demonstrate plaster mesh and papier mache’ techniques. Choose your technique wisely! What are the pros and cons of each? Heavier and more complex pieces must use papier mache’. Smaller or simpler ones may use papier mache’ or plaster mesh.
  3. Your teacher will demonstrate clean up procedures. The class must stay until the room is cleaner than it was! Please do not dump and water or papier mache’ buckets. These get reused. There can be no plaster, mesh, newspaper, or papier mache’ ‘goo’ in the sinks, on tables, etc.

Tuesday

  1. Duesday: Totem Project ready for papier mache’ or plaster mesh. Be ready by clean up time.
  2. Work on totem section.

Wednesday & Thursday

1.Work on totem section

Friday

1.Whole Class: Learn how to read a credit line:

2.Blended Learning:

a.Write rough draft Museum grade credit line to accompany your totem.

It must include: Title, Your name, Year, media (plaster mesh or papier mache', acrylic paint, etc.)

What is your totem animal and why did you choose it

What is your family symbol and why did you choose it.

What is your state symbol and why did you choose it.

b.Work-in-Progress peer critique with rubric.

How can the artist make this the most amazing sculpture ever?

c.Paint and finish your totem section.

Week 10

  1. Learn how to finish your totem pole with acrylic paint, spray paint, tissue paper, feathers, and other items.
  2. Finish all papier mache’, plaster mesh, and finishing techniques by Friday, to be graded next week.
  3. Complete your final credit line by Friday to be displayed with your totem in the library.
  4. If you finish early, please help a classmate with their totem.
  5. We will work on portrait drawing out of Jack Hamm’s book, focusing on the whole figure.
