General Information

What it’s all about

Welcome parents and students to an exciting year of Visual Art! This year students will utilize and engage the imagination through observing and interacting with their surroundings, while building a foundational knowledge of the elements and principles of art and design. In this class we will express ideas and create original artworks through a wide range art media, both traditionally and experimentally. Students will identify, compare/contrast, and analyze historical works from numerous cultures around the world, discuss cultural contexts, as well as identify career opportunities in art.

Policies

Absences: Any work, notes, handouts, etc. missed due to absence will be the student’s responsibility to check what they missed.

Tardiness: Any student entering the room after the tardy bell will be marked tardy. After 3 tardies lunch detention is assigned.

Late Work: All work must be turned in by the end of the 6-week grading period. If work is turned in 1-day late there is a 15pt deduction with an additional 5pts every day after it’s due.

Cell Phones: It is against school policy to use cell phones/electronic devices during class. If a student is caught using their phone the device will be held onto until the end of the school day. If it happens again the device will be taken to the office where they hold on to it for the rest of the school day.

Assessment

Assessment is the process of judging in terms of criteria. Assessment is an integral part of learning. Criteria are expected learning outcomes and observable evidence of learning. The main purpose of assessment should be to improve teaching and learning and to measure progress. Evaluation of each student will be by the following method.

Content Knowledge/Projects 40%

Professionalism/Participation50%

8.5x11 Spiral Bound Sketchbook – 50 Page Minimum

1 piece of WHITE poster board

#2 Pencils / Eraser / Handheld Sharpener

Coloured Pencil Set (Crayola or Prismacolor)

***NO ROSE ART / HEB / Twistables / Erasables
