VISTA MURRIETA BASEBALL:Try-out Information Packet
Thank you for expressing an interest in being a part of the Vista Murrieta Baseball Program. It is important that both the prospective player and his parent(s) review the information in this packet regarding the try-out process. Should there be any questions either now or anytime during or after this process, please feel free to contact me. I will be more than happy to respond to any questions or concerns that might arise. I want to do everything within my power to see that each and every young man that goes through our try-out process feels like he was treated fairly and respectfully.
With that being said, it is a reality that there will be many more young men not being selected to one of our teams than there will be young men actually “making” one of our teams. It’s important for every young man to understand that there is no guarantee that he will be selected to participate on one of our teams; we only guarantee that he will be given the opportunity to show our coaching staff if he has what it takes to be a member of our program. There is no doubt that there are going to be some tough decisions that we, as a coaching staff, are going to have to make. The toughest part of my job is “cutting” a young man who wants nothing more in his life (at this point) than being on one of our teams; however, it is something that goes with the territory.
It is understandable that some of the young men that are not selected will be greatly upset over their omission from the program. In this time of adversity for the particular individual, there will be a great opportunity for personal growth. There are numerous examples of individuals who have used “tough times” in their lives to make themselves stronger, better people. There have been many professional baseball players who have been traded away or released from an organization who have then gone on to make that organization regret their decision to let them go. Setback…comeback!
My best wishes go out to all of the young men that decide to give it their best shot. Even if you are not selected, it doesn’t mean you weren’t successful. John Wooden, a pretty good basketball coach, defined success as doing the very best that you can possibly do in a given situation. So with that in mind, good luck…have fun… and do your best!
