VIRTUAL WORLD SCENARIO SCRIPT

“2 Couples on a Vacation”

[MKTG 301; Dr. Carter; Spring 2010]

INTRODUCTION

The virtual world project engages you in modeling customer profile archetypes as “avatars” in order to learn “Individual Consumer Influence” concepts. In addition, the future possibilities of “virtual world” marketing are depicted by dramatic role-play scenario involving segmentation characteristics (ch. 7), motivations (ch. 8) and belief components (ch. 10).

However, YOU are required to FIRST CREATE the scenario “theme,” “avatar roles,” and market interaction plot, scenes, and script.” After this collective class process is completed, you will divide into groups associated with particular avatar roles (maximum of 4). Then, our class periods will be used to vicariously simulate the “virtual world” market presence and patterns. Using imagination and a “dramaturgy” approach, instead of 3-D technology, you will direct the motion of your group’s virtual avatar through a series of interactions.

Afterwards, we will see how marketers validate the unseen aspects of customer identity by monitoring and observing actual interactions, not just reported responses, regarding motivation and beliefs/feelings/attitudes. In addition, we will have a chance to ponder the future possibilities of “virtual world” marketing.

JUAN / LUPE / LIAM / HELGA
“ Hey babe it is packed in here” / “Don’t call me babe, I have a name.” It’s packed because we are in Barcelona.
I know that you are tired babe, what do you want to eat? / And how do you know that? Let’s go eat at a place nearby. / Hey there you guys! I told Liam that I would meet him by the baggage claim.
Sooo now what? / Nice to meet you Liam. I am Lupe. / Helga! …Who’d you bring with you this time? This isn’t in the budget. *Sarcasm* Welcome all! / I can bring whomever I want, this is my vacation as well! This is LUPE and Juan we met on the plane.
Helga always had a great sense of humor, nice to meet both of you.

SCENE 2 – “The Mingling”

Now settled into their posh Barcelona“Hotel Majestic,”the American and Swedish couple finds that a stimulating interplay exists among their varied MOTIVATIONS (ch.8). Awaking after all night drinks, snacks, and chats, the zestful foursome take to the streets of Barcelona for a day of sightseeing.

THE LADIES EVEN TOUR THE CITY ON A SCOOTER!!!

JUAN / LUPE / LIAM / HELGA
“ Whatever the ladies want sounds good.” / Sounds like a plan! Where do you wanna start? / I made a list of possible places to see and things to do, any place in particular look good? / So today is a new day, how about we rent some mopeds and take our own tour of the city?
This all sounds good but lets make sure we come back on time for the soccer match. / Oh! I’ve seen pictures of that place, it’s amazing. We should stop and take some too. / How about we pick up some food to eat lunch there and enjoy the scenery. / I say we take our mopeds to MontjuicPark, it is the perfect place to start.

SCENE 2 – “The Mingling” (Continued)

JUAN / LUPE / LIAM / HELGA
Let’s get going, we’ll go out and tour, come back so the guys can get ready for the game and J.J and I can do some serious shopping.
I love the sights here, I’ve been taking lots of pictures of you guys with my new camera, you’ll have to give me your guy’s email so I can send you the pictures.

SCENE 2 – “The Mingling” (Continued)

JUAN / LUPE / LIAM / HELGA
I will text you my email / Great! So Liam and I were wondering how the two of you met, any plans to tie the knot here in Barcelona?
Lupe went with some associates to the “Blue Ocean” and I prepared a special dish for her. / You call that a special dish, no I’m kidding. It was great. / I bet you I can make a better dish.
Oh is that so, well I would like to try this dish of yours. / Heh, nobody appreciates my sense of humor. So why did you want to date someone as young as Juan, Lupe? / So LUPE do you have any kids?
Age never really meant that much to me. Plus it’s fun to have a young hot stallion around. Yes, I have two children. A boy and a girl.

SCENE 2 – “The Mingling” (Continued)

JUAN / LUPE
Ahh Lupe I have really enjoyed our vacation here together. Liam and Helga have made this vacation so enjoyable. / I am really having a great time also. I can’t believe we met such nice people.
Yeah babe the hotel service has been excellent and the food here is to die for. / I agree. Especially the lobster dinner. It’s such a beautiful night, do you want to go for a walk on the beach?
Only if you wear my favorite bikini. / Only if you buy me a tiffany’s necklace to match my bracelet that you got me for my birthday.
Let’s just go back to that comfortable hotel and call room service for drinks or get directions to the club. / Let’s go back to the hotel room so we can get ready for the rest of the night.

SCENE 2 – “The Mingling” (Continued)

LIAM / HELGA
I really enjoyed this trip, these people that we met are way more educated, way more talented, way more funny than us. I just wish at times you would be more like LUPE and know when to talk at the right time?
(pause break)
I am kidding Helga, you have known me for years. I am 95% of the time never serious. However why my jokes have been off lately is because I plan on doing something really special this time and I have been thinking. I admit have been a little confused lately because of my work and something else for you, so things are coming out the way I like, but you will see soon enough the why and you will be happy and thank me.*sarcasm* / Why am I dating you?
So I guess you really like them?

SCENE 2 – “The Mingling” (Continued)

LIAM / HELGA
Yes, Helga, as usual you find interesting people to tag along, how do you find a couple every year? / I am just that wonderful! I have a question for you. Does the age difference between Lupe and Juan bother you?
No, not really. Lupe and Juan think their own way, its not really our business. Let’s get out of here and catch a cab to the boardwalk and do some window shopping. By the way, you look lovely tonight. / Totally. Let’s go – There is a tiffany’s necklace that I have been dying to get.
Well since I have been a little bit of a jerk tonight I think you probably deserve it. I also want to look at the clothes, nothing in Japan fits me. / Look, here is the store. (purchase necklace, walk out and run into LUPE and Juan)

SCENE 3 – “The Memories”

JUAN / LUPE / LIAM / HELGA
It was very nice. Thank you all for such a great trip. / Hey you guys! How was your night?
Ya, totally. Aside from all my joking, I really enjoyed this trip. Sorry I came off as such a jerk. / I am so happy that you got to join us this week. It was a total blast.
Yeah, just wait till you see what I got you dear! It makes Helga’s look small. / So Juan did you see what Helga has on? On her neck? / I don’t have to overcompensate. / I am glad that you finally came around.

SCENE 3 – “The Memories” (Continued)

JUAN / LUPE / LIAM / HELGA
Don’t you know it Babe? Let’s go get some fish tacos! / Oh I can tell you he Sanchezsn’t have to. / Okay you guys, we have had a great trip and this is our last night. Let’s not get to competitive.
