Directions to Remove old Virtua Client

**Please ensure that old versions of documentation and profiler are removed, also.**

1) Click on Start button in bottom left corner of Windows.

2) Click on Settings in the Start-bar, then Control Panel.

3) In the Control Panel window, double-click on “Add or Remove Programs”

4) Scroll down to the line that reads VTLS Virtua Version 4x.x (similar to image shown below) and click on this name. When this is highlighted in blue, click on the “Change/Remove” button.

5) InstallShield will appear briefly and launch another pop-up window (see image below). In this InstallShield Wizard window, choose “Remove” and click Next.

6) If asked “Do you want to completely remove the selected application and all of its components”, click “OK”.

7) Windows will proceed to uninstall the old version of Virtua. If you are prompted to delete a “shared file” (such as image shown below) check the box to stop displaying this message and click “No”.

8) If Vericat is installed on your computer (typically on staff PCs where cataloging is performed), please also remove it following the same steps through Add/Remove Programs.

9) Restart the computer.

Installing the new version of Virtua and Vericat

10) After uninstalling the old version of Virtua, rebooting and logging in to the computer, go to “My Computer” on the Desktop and go to the root of the S: drive (S:\library)

11) Double click on the file name “client_install-46_3.exe”

12) The WinZip Self Extractor should appear (similar to image shown below); click “Setup” to proceed.

13) The next window will inform you that you are about to install Virtua Client Version 46.3. Click “Next” to proceed.

14) A warning message about custom translations will appear (similar to image shown below). This message does not apply to UTC’s use of Virtua, so click “Yes” to continue the installation.

15) Accept the default installation location of “C:\Program Files\VTLS\Virtua” and click “Next” to proceed.

16) When asked to select which components to install, make sure the box for Virtua is checked. IF THIS IS A STAFF COMPUTER IN CATALOGING, also check the box for installing “Vericat” (as shown below). Click Next to proceed.

17) Virtua will install without further prompts, but if you selected to install Vericat you will see a few extra screens. Click “OK” if you see the next screen to continue installing Vericat:

18) At the subsequent window, confirm the default location for installing Vericat at “C:\Program Files\VERICAT\” and click the computer button to continue.

19) When asked to choose the program group for installing Vericat, keep the default entry of “VERICAT” and just click “Continue”.

20) Click OK to acknowledge the installation of Vericat. The WinZip self extractor should close on its own after a few seconds.

Virtua Configuration Instructions

21) Double-click on the Virtua icon from the Desktop or from the Start / Programs list.

22) The Connect to Servers box will appear, but will be empty. Click on the “Setup” button to configure the connection to the server.

23) In the Server Setup window, click inside the Profile Name box to enter a new server profile for “UTC Library” and enter the following information to match the picture below (UTC Test Database is optional, but similar – only difference is that TCP/IP Port is 9999. I usually set the Test database to the color red, for visual emphasis).

24) Click on “OK” and you should be returned to the “Connect to Server” window

25) For Acquisitions functions (not Cataloging), ILL and Circulation, install the appropriate workforms (using *-wfm-installer.exe) and change “Options > Cataloging Options > Display Options” to “Use MARC Labels.” This is for Acquisitions and Reserves data entry.

26) If the server upgrade has been completed and JASON or ANDREA HAS GIVEN THE “ALL CLEAR”, click on “Connect” and enter your Virtua system login to test the connection.

CONGRATULATIONS! YOU’VE COMPLETED THE UPGRADE!
