DESCRIPTION:

The Village of Glen Ellyn is seeking qualified candidates for the General Manager position at its premier Village Links Golf Course and newly built Reserve 22 restaurant/banquet facility. The primary duties of this Department Head-level position include, but are not limited to, managing all aspects of the Village-owned golf course and restaurant/banquet operations. Position develops operating policies and procedures and directs the work of all Department managers. Implements and monitors the budget, monitors the quality of products and services, and ensures maximum customer satisfaction. Secures and protects the Village’s assets, including facilities and equipment. Position also oversees all maintenance and upkeep of golf course grounds, as well as other Village-owned parks including Panfish Park, Lambert Lake, Manor Woods, and Co-Op Park. Coordinates and administers the Village and Department policies; and oversees the integration of programs and activities into a seamless operating model that enhances the reputation, brand-identity, and overall profitability of the Village Links/Reserve 22 operation. Position reports directly to the Village Manager.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

·  Manages the development and implementation of Department goals, objectives, policies and priorities for each assigned service area; establishes appropriate service and staffing levels, and allocates resources in accordance with Village policy.

·  Provides advice and recommendations about policies, programs, and services relating to the golf and restaurant operations.

·  Sets goals for customer service and financial performance; tracks accomplishment of those goals by collecting data and sharing results with management team, Administration, Village Board and Recreation Commission.

·  Analyzes financial statements, aggressively manages cash flow and establishes strong controls to safeguard funds.

·  Reviews income and costs relative to goals; takes corrective action as necessary, to drive profitability.

·  Continually analyzes industry trends, customer feedback, and local competition; makes recommendations to adjust programs or services accordingly.

·  Drives customer loyalty by ensuring the highest standards of quality and service are met on a daily basis.

·  Researches and develops programs by identifying new revenue opportunities and potential target markets, and by communicating with customers in those target markets.

·  Actively promotes the golf course and restaurant/banquet facilities by reviewing, approving, and implementing marketing plans and promotional events or activities.

·  Ensures that physical assets and facilities are kept in a state of good repair by planning for and allocating resources for the on-going maintenance and future replacement and/or upgrade of capital items.

·  Manages the development and day-to-day administration of the Department’s annual operating and capital budgets, and forecasts revenues/expenditures.

·  Establishes and updates standard operating policies and procedures; and initiates and monitors overall compliance by staff.

·  Oversees business processes and maintains strong internal controls for revenue collection, procurement, payroll/leave administration, and loss prevention functions within the Department.

·  Fosters a welcoming atmosphere for patrons; periodically engages with customer base through “meet and greets” in both golf and restaurant operations.

·  Consistently assures that the Department is operated in accordance with all applicable local, state and federal laws.

·  Oversees all maintenance and upkeep of golf course grounds as well as other Village-owned parks, including Panfish Park, Lambert Lake, Manor Woods, and Co-Op Park. This responsibility includes effectively maintaining the storm sewer system throughout the property to ensure that the storm water basin is properly managed.

·  Hires, trains, motivates, and evaluates personnel; initiates staff training programs; works constructively with employees to correct performance deficiencies; and recommends and implements discipline as needed.

·  Plans, schedules and assigns work; consistently administers Village and Department personnel policies.

·  Fosters clear and consistent communication with employees; and promptly reviews and resolves employee concerns or grievances in a fair and impartial manner

·  Serves as the primary contact between the Village Links/Reserve 22 and rest of the Village government, including Administration, Village Board, and Recreation Commission, by attending meetings, responding to inquiries, and developing reports.

·  Participates on a variety of boards and committees; attends and participates in professional group meetings.

·  Establishes and maintains effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work including Village and other government officials, golf/restaurant patrons, employees, community groups, vendors, media representatives, industry trade groups, and the general public.

·  Facilitates community engagement with customers and oversees communication and effective service delivery to the general public.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

·  Bachelor’s degree in Golf Course Management, Hospitality Management, Business Administration, or related field.

·  Minimum of seven (7) years experience of increasingly responsible administrative experience in hospitality management, with a particular emphasis on golf course and restaurant operations, including at least three years of supervisory experience.

·  Ability to maintain a professional demeanor with customers, vendors, employees, and the general public; must be able to effectively resolve service concerns in a timely manner.

·  Experience with developing, recommending, and implementing marketing strategies and tactics.

·  Ability to comprehend, retain and apply Federal, State, and local regulations.

·  Demonstrated experience with devising and implementing customer appreciation/loyalty initiatives.

·  Ability to operate various types of equipment – standard office equipment, including telephone, copier, computer and related software (e.g. MS Office Suite), and point of sale systems-POS).

·  Ability to communicate effectively with staff, vendors, and the general public both orally and in written form.

·  Ability to perform basic mathematical calculations, including the ability to develop and analyze profit/loss statements and complex operational and capital budgets.

·  Ability to think quickly, maintain self-control, and adapt to stressful situations; and must be able to use good judgment in effectively solving problems.

·  Previous experience with coaching and developing high-performing teams is critical.

·  Effective public speaking skills are also required.

·  A valid driver’s license.

·  General work schedule is 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. Qualified applicants must be able to work flexible hours, as needed, including evenings and weekends.

SALARY/BENEFITS:

The salary range for this full-time, exempt position is $85,114/year to $129,397/year (Grade S). Anticipated starting salary is +/- $110,000/year with a full range of benefits offered, plus eligibility to earn additional incentive-based compensation. Actual starting salary is negotiable, and will be dependent upon qualifications, experience, and professional achievement.
