Dr. Dennis Golladay
Vice Chancellor for Community Colleges
On December 1, 2006, Dr. Dennis Golladay, assumed the duties of Vice Chancellor for Community Colleges at the State University of New York. As Vice Chancellor for Community Colleges, Dr. Golladay reports directly to the Office of the Chancellor and is responsible for the oversight and coordination of relations with SUNY’s 30 community colleges and their related organizations. He serves as staff liaison to the Board of Trustees Committee on Community Colleges and as a liaison to the State University Construction Fund and represents the Chancellor at Community College meetings.
Prior to becoming Vice Chancellor for Community Colleges at SUNY, Dr. Golladay served as sixth president of CayugaCountyCommunity College, assuming the post in July 1996 following 24 years’ experience in a community college setting. Upon his departure, he was honored with the title of President Emeritus. Dr. Golladay previously served as Vice President for Academic Affairs at AnneArundelCommunity College in Maryland for four years and seven years as Dean of the School of Humanities at PensacolaJunior College in Florida.
A native of Virginia, Dr. Golladay earned his B.S. degree in social science and English from MadisonCollege and his master’s and doctorate in American History from the University of Virginia. In 1985, he was a National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH) Summer Seminar Fellow at JohnsHopkinsUniversity where he participated in a postgraduate seminar on British Colonial North America. He was also an NEH Summer Fellow in 1981 at the University of Virginia.
Publications to his credit deal with topics including American history, politics, the law and general education. Among these are “Sidestepping Due Process: Federal Grand Juries and the Unindicted Co-Conspirator” (Judicature, February 1982) and “John Nicholas: VirginiaCongressman, New York Quid” (New York History, January 1979).
Dr. Golladay was also president of the statewide Association of Presidents of Public Community Colleges (APPCC) after having served as the group’s vice president and as secretary. He was also on the SUNY Community College Strategic Plan task force. At the recommendation of the Middle States Commission on Higher Education, Dr. Golladay chaired two team visits to member institutions seeking reaccreditation.

Chair of the Governing Council of the NASA-sponsored Institute for the Application of GeoSpatial Technology situated on the campus of CayugaCommunity College, Dr.Golladay also serves on the board of the Institute for Community College Development at CornellUniversity. In 2004 he was appointed to the Regional Alliance of The Essential New York Initiative, a forum for spurring economic development in the twelve-county Central Upstate New York region. In the spring of 2005 he joined the boards of AuburnMemorialHospital and the local SchweinfurthMemorialArtsCenter.
Dr. Golladay has also a record of wide-ranging community service. He served on the Board of Directors of the United Way of CayugaCounty and was co-chair of its 2003 Campaign. He is a past member/chair of the Board of Directors of the Cayuga County Chamber of Commerce and an honorary member of the Advisory Board of Leadership Cayuga County. He completed a term as member of the local Montessori School Board and has served as a member of the National Judges Panel for the National Women’s Hall of Fame 2005 Induction. The Auburn-Cayuga Chapter of the NAACP honored him with a Millennium Award in 2003.
Dr. Golladay is married to Dr. Mamie Howard Golladay, president of SullivanCountyCommunity College in Loch Sheldrake, New York.
