This is an ideal opportunity to become involved in one of the hidden treasures of London. Covering 1.5 acres of land, Vauxhall City Farm is home to over 60 animals and provides a chance for Londoners to meet farm animals face to face. It also provides opportunities, education and training for people in the local community and beyond.

Overall purpose of the job

To assist with the educational project at Vauxhall City Farm as and when required. This includes leading educational visits from schools, events for the community, birthday parties and events taking place offsite (i.e. shows and ‘animals out’ trips).

Key Responsibilities

  • Work independently to deliver tours, workshops and activities to groups and visitors.
  • Set up and clear away all materials needed for the session
  • Liaise with education manager to manage school bookings, payments etc
  • To deal with the general public and a wide variety of clients including those with access needs, with tact and diplomacy at all times.
  • To ensure the security of the site, including animal housing and buildings.
  • Work with other staff to ensure all aspects of the farm run smoothly.
  • To be able to work as part of a team and undertake tasks using your own initiative within the prescribed farm routine.
  • To work with other staff to undertake the delivery of project based activities.
  • To take part in any other Farm duties that may occur from time to time.
  • To understand, implement and uphold the farms policies at all times, including the farm’s child protection procedures, equal opportunities policy and diversity policies.

First Aid Qualification
Experience / Proven experience of working within a busy and varied environment
Proven experience of working with and/or leading groups of children and young people / Experience of independently delivering informal education experiences for the general public.
Experience of dealing with administrative procedures.
Experience of dealing with the public
Skills/Competencies / Excellent communication skills, with particular respect to communicating with large groups of young children.
Ability to communicate with those of all ages, abilities and backgrounds.
Good time management skills.
Ability to work within a team.
Ability to manage a group of up to 30 children and follow written guidance and procedures (i.e. lesson plans, talk scripts)
Ability to use initiative.
Working knowledge of health and safety issues and how these may affect educational programmes.
Personal Attributes / Good organisational skills.

Able to work some weekends.
