Race Logic Traction Control Windows Application Written By Graham Rudd.

USING THE APPLICATION

I take no credit for the creation of theapplication; however I acted as a software and road tester for Graham duringits development back in 2001. The latest version; 0.9b is bug free and has function perfectly in many Windows OS versions, and has been used successfully to alter settings in RL unitsin MKIV’s across the planet.

Before using the app connect your laptop to the RL com lead, turn on the ignition to power the RL unit, switch on your lap top. Open the app and select the appropriate comport to communicate with the RL unit.

From the Comms/Setup tab select load and browse to find the file I sent you. You can then see and alter any settings you wish. If you make alterations you should save the altered dat under a new name, otherwise you will over write the original file. You can make up new dats away from the car and load them when you connect up to the RL unit.

To look at your current dat, the one that RL installed in your RLTC ECU, hook up the RL unit up to your lap top as described, in Comms/Setup and hit Receive, you can than see what RL sent you. If you open Grahams app again, (it can run as many screens as you want), you can make direct comparisons between your new file and the original RL file. Please send me a copy of your original dat, as I am collecting crap dats just for interest, (sad git, I know!!!) but it is amazing how well the unit works even with rubbish for data

To load the new file into the RL unit, load the file I sent you and hit Transmit.

This action always overwrites the dat in the RL unit. Your original file is now replaced with the new one.

If you have not set up your car with the 180degree corner configuration run, described in the RL manual, you will need to do so. If you have, then you need to copy the wheel settings from youroriginaldat into your new one. Set up the laptop again hit Receive and this is your “configuration” dat, save as your master. Take a screen shot or make a note of the Reference Assignment and Side Assignment data on the Wheel Speed Sensor tab If things go wrong you can load this any time to get back to a dat, with your correct wheel settings.

Remember any settings changed on the laptop will not be loaded into your RL system until the file is transmitted. Transmitted files always overwrite the existing file in the RL unit. Always keep a back copy of you latest dat on your laptop. Internal data rarely fails but it has happened, but the cause was unknown, RL repaired the one faulty unit I know of, and sent the unit back with the owner’s settings still unchanged.

First time road use

Start with low slip settings and build your confidence. Remember the both front and rear wheels have to be moving at above 14 kph to enable the system to work, so fast take offs on hard lock may not trigger any cut, some spins are possible without switching the system off. You will still get a little spin when pulling out of junctions enthusiastically, but nothing dangerous or uncontrollable.

The slip settings on the slip control tab are the main things to play with. The settings supplied have been tried and tested by many users and found to be pretty good in most conditions. Remember that the Assert at(?) % figures are for cornering situations, the system adds 5% to each Assert at figure, in straight-line situations. You will need to transmit any changes to the RL unit to change your RL dat to your adjusted settings and to enable them to work in the car. Remember to keep a copy of your new settings.

If you keep the laptop connect to the car you can check the function s of the unit by having a passenger use the monitor screen functions. The current version of the app only allows live logging, no save function is available.

DAT Problems

Very occasionally dats get corrupted during e-mail transfer and the data held in the dat becomes scrambled. If the slip settings do not look like the one shown, let me know and I will send the dat again.

Disabling stock TC

Remember to switch off the stock TC system or it will kick in and produce the unwanted effects we all know of at approximately 13% slip (straight line) and kill the power totally if left switched on.. In a manualcar you can remove the TC fuse to disable the stock TC. The auto box uses the TC butterfly for other purposes so removing the fuse causes some undesirable effects for road use, but acceptable 3 on the drag strip taking anything up to .0.5 seconds off standing ¼ times.

(I can supply butter fly removal kits with English instruction at very competitive prices. The kit removes the butterfly, so restrictions to induction flow are removed in addition to the stock TC functions)

Fine tuning RLTC to your car

After getting used to RLTC you may wish to tune the system more to your personal driving style. If you contact me I will help you make adjustment to parts of the system that will effect how the system works on the road or track, we can make the system tighter or allow more slip. It is entirely up to you. I have tuned my own dat to be different to the one I have sent, after two year experience of RLTC. Most users find the dat from me adequate for most driving conditions.

Enjoy!!!! Find a big empty space and go WOT and have fun.
