Using Technology to Differentiate Instruction

  4. Approximate Time Needed: Two to three thirty minute sessions in lab to collect information. Two to three thirty minute sessions to type information on computer.

  1. Objectives/ Lesson Outcomes: Students collect information on particular topic, organize that information based on predetermined format. Student will type in correct information into computer template for Power Point program that will share their research with fellow classmates.
  2. Materials and Resources Required:
  3. Technology (including location and equipment): Class uses lab for 30 minute sessions. (approximately 6 sessions needed)
  • Website can be accessed through my home page link or directly through internet.
  • Tux Paint to illustrate pictures for Power Point
  • Printed Materials: Dinosaur organization packet. This includes :
  • Outline page: Name, Pronunciation, Height, Weight, Length, Anatomy, Diet, Habitat, Period of existence, Locomotion and 5 interesting facts unique to chosen dinosaur
  • Dinosaur Name worksheet with Greek prefixes and suffixes
  • How to Draw a Dinosaur worksheet- shows simple way to begin outline of a dinosaur body, includes help with habitat.
  • Other Supplies: Dinosaur books collection in classroom library. (To add extra details and interesting facts)

10. Lesson Procedures:

  1. Students share information about dinosaurs together as group. Make a KWL chart to show what we know and what we want to know.
  2. Present Dinosaur Information Organization Sheet- This is to be used when collection information and details to organize in a manner so that students will be able to make Power Point easily.
  3. Students use lab to collect research information on websites.
  4. Students keep details on organization sheets.
  5. Students feed information into Power Point template.
  6. Students use Tux Paint to illustrate pictures.
  7. Students share end result Power Point to classmates.
  1. Modifications for Differentiated Instruction:
  2. Remediation: Use abbreviated information gathering page. Student may also work with another student. (Buddy Project)
  1. Enrichment: Make 3 dimensional models to show dinosaur or fossils depicting bones.

12. Student Assessment: Rubric final assessment that was discussed at beginning of project.
