Using NBC Learn Videos

NBC Learn in the Class Room:

  1. Go to Blackboard
  2. When the home page comes up, look in the top left corner under the heading of Tools. You will see NBC Learn Browse. Click on the link.
  3. Once you get to the NBC Learn Home page you may select your subject area and begin browsing the videos available.
  4. Or you can use the search block and type in what you are looking for. However, you must enter key words for the video to be located.
  5. Once you have found a video for your class click on it and then click Save (found at the bottom left corner). Once you click Save it automatically saves the video to your play list.
  6. From your playlist you can access any video that you have saved simply by clicking on the picture of the video located to the far right.
  • Once you have selected the video to show your students, point out that by selecting Transcript button students can read along with the video being played. This aspect can be very useful to the hearing impaired. Also, in the top right corner there is a small reverse arrow icon that when clicked will display all the information about the video such as a description, vocabulary terms and citations. The vocabulary terms are useful when discussing the video or the terms can be connected to an assignment.
  1. Full screen is accessed by clicking the icon to the right of the sound icon.
  2. Cue Card is the term given for each short video. By clicking on the icon directly to the right of the Full Screen icon you can view any related videos that have an association to the video being watched.
  • Experiment with the options by moving your mouse over each icon.

NBC Learn in Moodle:

  1. Go to your Moodle site.
  2. Turn Editing On.
  3. Select the Unit Block that you want the video to appear and click on Add Activity or Resource button at the bottom of the block.
  4. Select they type of Activity or Resource by clicking inside the circle.
  • By clicking inside the circle next to the activity, one can see a summary of what that activity or resource will allow you to do. If you need more information about what you have selected click on the More button at the bottom of the summary. Usually, the help screens that appear will take you step by step through the process of using that activity or resource.
  1. Click the Add Button to make your selection.
  2. Type your title in the Assignment box.
  3. Typeyourinstructions in the Description box.
  4. Then click on the Toolbar Toggle icon located in the top left corner next to Format. By clicking on the Toolbar Toggle icon you can view all icons available.
  5. Click on the Peacock icon (it is in color) at the far right of the toolbar.
  6. Now you are at NBC Learn and can locate the video that you want to use.
  7. Once you have found a video for your class click on it.
  8. Directly below the picture you will see an Embed tab. Click on it.
  9. Directly below the picture you will see an Embed tab. Click on it.
  10. Directly below the picture you will see an Embed tab. Click on it.
  11. Then click copy the URL.
  12. Go back to Moodle and locate the > icon, click on it and paste your copied URL into to the Update box.
  13. Click on Update located at the bottom left.
  14. Your video is now in Moodle!
  15. Click on all other setting below the Description box that you want to use with the activity or resource.
