Alternate Curriculum
Use this form for students who:
have had a comprehensive assessment completed
have an identified exceptionality that includes moderate global delay or severe mental handicap
may meet eligibility requirements for Criteria C categorical teaching support
require programming that is a totally alternate curriculum
Note
An alternate curriculum consists of programming in the following eight domains:
Functional Academic Skills
Functional Communication Skills
Functional Decision-making Skills
Functional Living Skills
Social Skills
Sexuality
Self Concept/Self Esteem
Non-Scheduled Time Usage

Students who proceed through school on an Alternate Curriculum will not be eligible to receive High School credits.
When implementing an Alternate Curriculum it is important to ensure that all eight domains are addressed in the educational component of the ISSP.
The special education teachers and all others with responsibility for implementing outcomes of the program should have a copy of the relevant curriculum areas and a complete copy should be kept as the educational component of the student=s ISSP and forwarded to the ISSM.
District office personnel will have access to this information upon request.

Components of an Alternate Curriculum
The following are the necessary components of an Alternate Curriculum.

$ Provide an outline of the content to be covered in each domain:

$ Specify the instructional strategies which you will use to support the student=s achievement of the learning outcomes:

$ Specify the learning environments.
$ Specify the evaluation strategies to measure student achievement of the outcomes
$ Specify the learning resources, appropriate to the student=s needs and interests, which will be used to promote student achievement of the intended learning outcomes.
A copy of the completed Alternate Curriculum is then attached as the Educational component of the ISSP.
