USC Connect Graduate Assistant Duties/Position Description

General Description

USC Connect is a comprehensive learning initiative to support allstudents in enhancing their Carolina education by connecting academics and beyond the classroom experiences. Students with extensive work in community service, global learning, professional andcivic engagement or research who demonstrate their ability to apply what they have learned to solve problems may earn the designation of Graduation with Leadership Distinction (GLD).

The graduate assistant in this position supports the work of USC Connect including Graduation with Leadership Distinction. Opportunities include presenting to students regarding USC Connect/GLD, working directly with students who are pursuing GLD (including support for developing e-portfolios), assisting with USC Connect events, and assisting with administration and documentation of students’ progress in earning GLD.

Working under the supervision of the Associate Director of USC Connect, qualifications include confident, articulate, and professional speaking abilities; the ability to contribute to a productive, professional environment; and the ability to work directly with students, faculty and staff from a variety of functional areas.

Areas of Responsibility

-Assist with promotingUSC Connect and GLD

-Support the coordination of efforts between the USC Connect Office and campus partners, university offices, faculty, staff and students to administer GLD

-Assist with structuring, and organizingGLD files, applications and forms

-Assist with the management of the USC Connect Student Application database

-Assist with managing and updating the Facebook page and other social media as developed

Qualifications

-Experience speaking in public, to groups, and individually with students

-Demonstrated strong organizational and administrative abilities

-Good oral and written communication skills

-Ability to interact with students, faculty, and staff from all areas of the University

-Flexibility and willingness to work as part of a diverse team

-Knowledge of software including Microsoft Word, Excel, and Power Point

-Initiative and resourcefulness with the ability to work without direct supervision

-Weekend and night work will be required occasionally

-Experience in supporting the development of oral and/or written communication, preferred

Remuneration

Academic Year (January 11 -May 7) 20 hours/week

Stipend: $3,750

Tuition Assistance: $2,100
