Ursuline Academy Wilmington is offering an Advanced Placement Human Geography course to interested seniors at all the Ursuline Schools in the United States.We are very excited about launching this new effort across the Ursuline Network. Lynda Churay, Social Studies Department Chair and one of our best teachers, is the instructor for the course. She has been teaching online courses at the college level for many years and piloted an AP course for high school students this year that was a huge success.I believe you will be pleased with the rigor and the high quality thatthis course has to offer.It is difficult to anticipate every detail of how to launch this across schools that have many different procedures already in place. CourseDescription:

Online Advanced Placement Human Geography is designed to be the equivalent of a one semester college introductory course in Geography. The course introduces the student to the systematic study of patterns and processes that have created the human world on earth, as we know it today.It seeks to demonstrate how human beings change the earth locally, regionally, and globally by the way that they inhabit it. It willconversely show how humans arrange their habitation to fit the physical locale in which they live.

Students who register for an online course should understand that online instruction requires more dedication, self-discipline, and time management skills than traditional classroom instruction.

Requirements:

Student must be a senior. An authorized school administrator must approve the student to take this course, as typical in approvalof any AP level course.All learning activities are conducted using the Internet. Internet access is required during the school day and after school hours, as well as weekends.The submission of some assignments will require access to a scanner.
