Option 1: Graphic Organizer

Develop an extended graphic organizer that identifies the similarities and distinctions of curriculum design between elementary, middle, and secondary schools, including an example of each design.

·  Consider the differing functions of the three levels of schooling

·  Include developmental characteristics that affect curricular design

·  Discuss the differing classroom structures that might affect instructional delivery and student academic learning activities

·  Describe the differing organization of instruction between the three levels of education and the effect on curriculum development, design and use of the CCSS framework.

·  Identify any affect alternative scheduling models might have on the three levels of curriculum as well as the effect of technology use on curriculum design at all three levels of schooling.

Present your findings to the class in a 10- to 15-minute presentation.

Resources: Internet, University of Phoenix Technology Resource Library databases, Textbooks, Multimedia Presentation Rubric

Option 2: Video

Resources: Curriculum Change Proposal video or poster presentation.

Identify an elementary, middle, or secondary school and an instructional content area for proposed change.

Record a 7-12 minute video recorded at your school site or equivalent setting in which you explain a set of guidelines proposed for integrative curriculum design at the school where you work or a school approved by your instructor.

·  Proposal should include whether this is a whole school, departmental, subject area (content area) proposal for changes.

·  Proposal should seek support and collaboration of classroom teachers as well as school leadership.

·  Proposal should provide listeners and senior decision-makers the curriculum development process, propose who will be involved, their roles, responsibilities, tracking of progress, and monitoring method. Include three or more peer-reviewed references.

·  Explain the aims, goals and objectives of the proposed integrative design. Consider curriculum design in-place and effect of your proposal to improve the present curriculum design. Identify the effects on the current curricular mapping system of the new integrative design.

·  References may include articles from the Electronic Reserve Readings, or your own research on guidelines a curriculum leader should use in designing whole school and content area curriculums.

Consider the needs and characteristics of your student population, for example: the need for STEM education, CCSS, linguistic development, diversity, acculturation, socio-economics, and special learning needs.
