Upstate NY Coders will be hosting our “May MAYnia Seminar”

Friday, May 12th, 2017 – from 8:00am to 5:15pm – in the Community Room, at St Luke’s Home

7:30 – 8:00 è Registration, along with a “Classic” Continental Breakfast consisting of: assorted mini pastries with jelly, and butter, served with whole fruit. [Includes: Maxwell House regular and decaffeinated coffee, tea, and cocoa.]

8:00 – 9:00 è “Medicare Risk Adjustment”, Speaker: Louise Hayes, RN, CPC, COC…. (1 ceu)

Ms. Hayes will discuss the basic fundamentals of Risk Adjustment - what it is and how does it impact health insurance payers. With documentation tips and guidelines for clinical documentation improvement. Coding with accuracy- medical record is the source of truth. ICD 10- CM-Coding to the correct level of specificity. Medicare Advantage, Commercial- ACA plans, and Medicaid.

Ms. Tucker will discuss the appropriate use of modifiers, their definition and application based upon this AAPC Approved Presentation written by Sarah Wechselberger CPC, CPMA, for Local Chapters.

Ms. Caliva will inform you of the new trends in drug abuse. The clinical effects associated with each of these drugs. Treatment options for acute effects in the field as well in a Healthcare Facility. Know how to identify drug seeking behavior. What are the current initiatives on a state and federal level in response to this epidemic?

During our working lunch session we will all participate in a game of “Coding Bingo” to help test your skill in various segments of Coding. Followed later in the afternoon by a fun interactive game, to test your knowledge of what the names of different bones are and where they are located in the human skeletal system. In addition, Members can visit with other coders over lunch. This bit of unstructured time provides an opportunity to connect with old friends and form new acquaintances.

Ms. Smith will discuss how experts advise that to ensure long-term success of any business, you must engage in a comprehensive examination of your business that includes evaluating the past and “visioning” the future. Ms. Eysman will discuss the role of a Speech-Language Pathologist in various settings, along with their responsibilities. She will explain what ICD-10 codes are typically used.

Ms. Salzer’s presentation will help you learn ways to add spice to your health and cooking, how to handle desktop dining dilemmas, yogurt choices, incorporating a more plant based diet, benefits of the Mediterranean Diet and how to enjoy a variety of good for you foods, benefits of coffee, identifying nutrition trends, and the connection of food and mood.

3:45 – 4:15 è “Tips for Job Seekers”, Speaker: Nancy Tucker, CPC, CPC-I …. (.5 ceu)

Ms. Tucker’s presentation will include a review of the material designed to offer basic information for AAPC local

chapter meetings. The information presented here is based on the experience, training, and interpretation of the author, Chasity McDonough 2013 Conway, SC Local Chapter Vice President.

4:15 – 5:15 è “Name That Bone ”, Hosted by: Regina Kostera, CPC & Michele Truchon-Jones, CPC …. (1 ceu)

Test your A & P knowledge of the Human Skeletal System, while having fun with this “hands-on” game. You will be given the name of the bone… all you have to do is indicate where it is located in the Skeletal System.
