Upper Division Writing Reflective Letter

All Upper Division Writing (UDW) courses in the Dept. of English are assessed every term. This allows us to monitor how well our courses are meeting NDSU's General Education(GE) requirements. UDW students are consequently asked to write reflective letters to the instructor and assessors at the end of the term, discussing how well the course met our GE outcomes.
The reflective letter must heed the following checklist items:
_____Your reflective letter is addressed to the UDW program team, with partial address information, the date, and a salutation.

Dear UDW Assessment Readers:
_____Your letter includes a brief introduction, describing what you wrote this term. You discuss in particular the chapbook, fiction and poetry projects, and reflective essay, as well as some of the brief exercises, cyber assignments, group worksheets, and face-to-face workshops you completed.
_____Your letter describes in a paragraph or more how the work you did fulfills General Education Outcome "A": "Students should learn to integrate knowledge and ideas in a coherent and meaningful manner." Here you should discuss all or most of the following:
  1. What did you submit for workshop sessions, and also what did you learn in each session? How did you integrate workshop feedback into revisions your writing? Be specific.
  2. How did you use semester readings or possible research to improve your writing? For instance, did particular poetry or fiction readings serve as models for your work?
  3. How did you use your own life experiences in a meaningful way in your stories and poems?
  4. What work did you do to focus and organize/arrange your poems, stories, and chapbook in a meaningful way?
_____Your letter describes in a paragraph or more how the work you did fulfills General Education Outcome "B": "Students should demonstrate good design principles in the presentation and execution of their documents and artifacts." Your focus here will likely be on your chapbook and everything in it, and maybe your Poetry Project #3 performance as well.
____Your letter includes a brief conclusion and closing or valediction.

____Your letter shows meticulous proofreading for correct punctuation, spelling, and grammar--no misspelling, typos, fused sentences, incomplete sentences, or comma errors.

_____Your letter is folded and inserted into or securely clipped to your chapbook. (Do not include it in your chapbook per se or bind it with the main chapbook body.
