ST. LAWRENCE PARKS OPENS SKYWOOD ECO ADVENTURE

Mallorytown, Ontario – The St. Lawrence Parks Commission will open Skywood Eco Adventure, Ontario’s largest aerial and zip line experience July 8, 2016. Located in the scenic Thousand Islands, Skywood will offer outdoor enthusiasts a wide range of experiences suitable for multiple skill levels. The opening of this new eco adventure experience is an important addition to the region’s tourism product and will bring new visitors into the region and extend their stay resulting in important economic impacts.

Skywood Eco Adventure is made up of several different areas offering a wide range of activities for all skill levels including children 5 years and up.

Zip Line Tour – The zip line tour or ‘Big Zip’ is a guided interpretive journey through 8 zip lines and bridges around the forest, through trees and along a ridgeline near the wetland of Jones Creek. You can catch your breath on the Chill Platform high up in the forest overlooking the marsh. The next zip is a 700 foot longrun above the marsh with magnificent views of the wetland and it is a guaranteed adrenaline rush! To experience the Big Zip, guests must be 12 yrs + and at least 60 inches tall. This experience lasts approximately 2.5 hours.

Adventure Courses feature 5 aerial courses 4 of which have zip lines. The aerial courses will have you climbing through a series of unique games and obstacleswith bridges, swings, nets and zip lines traversing from one platform to another. The courses progress in skill level from beginner to intermediate to advanced. Up to 64 games can be experienced on the adventure courses. Tours last approximately 3 hours.

Discovery Courses offer a confidence building experience for newcomers including children. This experience is only a few feet above the forest floor and two courses offer a self-guided tour with easy games. The Discovery Courses are suitable for most abilities including persons with disabilities.

The Discovery Zip Line is an accessible zip line that is ten feet above the ground with specialized safety equipment that is compatible with adaptive and assistive technologies. This is an experience that is suitable for persons with reduced mobility or requiring mobility aids. The Discovery Zip is also the perfect choice for anyone who is apprehensive about climbing and for children trying zip lining for the first time. Skywood Eco Adventure has the first permanent accessible zip line experience in Canada.

Treewalk Village - Skywood really does offer an experience for everyone and youngsters 3 yrs + will have their own special area – Treewalk Village. Opening later in the summer of 2016, Treewalk Village will feature a network of tree houses connected with ramps, nets and slides several feet off the ground. The experience is fully enclosed with no need for specialized safety equipment. Children will be able to navigate through the course with supervision from their parent/guardian from the ground.

Skywood Eco Adventure has been crafted in partnership with Treetop Trekking, Eastern Canada’s leader in the aerial adventure industry. The Thousand Islands Community Development Corporation provided a grant of $80,000 in support of the development of Skywood Eco Adventure.
