Welcome to Mrs. Hui’sDrawing II, III, and IV Class!
I am looking forward to a great year with you! Carefully read the following information and share it with your parent or guardian.

Class Overview
This course will be about continuing to develop and build drawing skills you learned in your previous art class. The class involves drawing from direct observation with an emphasis on space, volume, linear and free hand perspective, and other basic techniques and concepts. There will be regular class critiques and a required sketchbook. This course is directed towards highly motivated art students who are looking for a more in-depth and challenging approach to art. Students should have previous art experience. This course will provide the foundation for upper level studio courses, including AP Art. Students will study the art elements and principles, applying them to a variety of art media and techniques. Students will explore an understanding of art through art history and art criticism.

Upon successful completion of the course, student’s work will demonstrate

5.Disciplined work habits

6.Students will demonstrate the ability to write an artist statement and use elements of art and principles of design to critique artworks.

·All work must be kept in a portfolio. Respect and protect your work if you expect anyone else to do so. All work that is handed in for grading must have your name printed on the back.

Sketchbook
You will be responsible for keeping a sketchbook throughout the year. This sketchbook/journal should be composed of a combination of drawings, sketches, observations, and ideas related to your artworks. Think of this as a part of your practice as an artist, a think pad, a place to work out drawing problems and a place to experiment. Carry it around with you. Personalize it. Use it every day. It should always be with you. I will check sketchbooks every 2 weeks as part of your project grade. Bring it with you to class every day!
