Third Annual

Festival of Ebenezers

Saturday and Sunday the 24th and 25th of May 2003.

Information Sheet

Facts: So lets get this part out of the way – What in the hell is an Ebenezer ?

Ebenezers are small free flight aircraft built of solid balsa and do not have an aerofoil section. They were first named and developed by an American called Bert Striegler who created this feisty little aircraft which has proved to be an outlet for modelling eccentricity.

Most emulate from some well-known aircraft in very rough stand off scale fashion. Hence we have Spitanezers, Fokkenezers, Taubenezers, Cessanezers and so on.

Basic specification is: All solid balsa construction no aerofoil wings. Span for a Cox 020 about 24 inches. Engines half cc diesels or 020 Cox. Larger models with longer wing span could cope with 049 Cox. Ebenezers can be the result of your imagination, but always very colourful.

Plans: Are often published in overseas magazines. Some plans available from Ian Cartwright- self elected Australian Keeper of the Ebenezers. Phone : (02) 60 415680

The Festival of Ebenezers:

Is an event where enthusiasts bored with other flying –particularly Radio Control can let off steam and have a fun weekend with fellow model aircraft eccentrics. It’s all to do with camaraderie and some frustration for the way these little fellows fly. Nothing is very predictable except for the fun.

Our aim this year is to launch the world record number of aircraft during the World Mass Launch so as to beat the English who started this Ebenezer Mass Launch bit at Old Warden. Their record seems to be 81 aircraft.

Last year we did beat them with over 30 aircraft due to their numbers being down in the limey weather. A report on the World Mass launch appeared in Flyer magazine and the Festival would like to thank George Carr for organising such excellent recognition.

The Festival kicks off on the Saturday morning with some general practice at the Central Reserve Flying field. Participants are encouraged to bring along other free flight aircraft as well.

An Ebenezer dinner will be held at the Barclay Gardens Motor Inn at 6.00 pm. Two courses of home cooked meal for $15 per person. – a real bargain. Then its off to the Sports Stadium for indoor flying with competitions held for Hangar Rat, EZ-B, Chuck Glider and Peanut Scale if enough entries.

The next day is Ebenezer flying in earnest culminating with the World Mass Launch at noon. This will be followed by a BBQ lunch. Interstate travellers should get away by 2.00pm or 3.00pm.

An entry fee applies of $5 per pilot or should we say in the case of an Ebenezer - Pilotless. This will cover some costs - but not all because the stadium comes at a high expense. Donations will be gratefully received however consideration is being given to a commemorative plaque which would cost about $7- please indicate if you would want one.
