Unwind Group Wiki Project

Process

·  Organize your choices from the following list in order of preference 1-10:

Animal Rights / Human Rights
Capital Punishment / Immigration
Censorship / Poverty
Child Abuse / Racial Equality
Education / Religious Tolerance
Environmental Degradation / Women’s Rights
Government Monitoring

·  Groups will be assigned based on topic choices – minimum two, maximum four in a group; no group will be assigned the same topic

·  From the class Moodle page, use the links to access the wiki and the documents you need. (All of the information below and a scoring guide for each section are contained in documents on the Moodle page so you can easily edit and save while you are working on each section.

·  Complete each section as assigned (due dates on the Moodle Site).

·  Worry about Wiki style last; get your information posed as well.

To Keep In Mind:

·  Notes from each person in each group should be saved to every person’s U drive every day

·  Make sure that more than one person has your drafts saved on school U drives; if someone is absent you will need access so you can continue working.

·  Use your Burrell email to communicate with your group members and to share files

·  This is a group project so students are expected to work as a group. Any student who is not working will be given an alternative assignment.

Guiding Questions for Wiki Components

The final wiki must contain the following parts:

Description of Issue – This is to be factual, researched information

·  What is the issue? Make sure you clearly define what the problem in your society is. What does it mean? Why is it a problem?

·  What “mistakes” have been made throughout the USA and world regarding your topic? Search for problems already evident in the system.

·  How is this unresolved issue negatively impacting society? Must find three news stories. Summarize and reference through a link.

From here on out, you are creating your own information – it is fictitious

The Turning Point

·  In your society, what ultimate event made the problem erupt into an issue that needed to be addressed in a Bill of _____?

o  describe the event

o  list at least 3 points for each of the different sides of the controversy

The Bill of ______

·  Create a Bill of _____ in the spirit of the Bill of Life from Unwind

The Solution

·  Come up with a solution to the problem based off of your Bill of ____. Make sure that your solution can be defended through scientific research and has realistic outcomes. Remember that the science fiction to be represented should be believable.

·  Your solution must be well thought out and complete. You must be able to defend it. It must take into consideration both sides of the argument to a compromise.

Mainstream Society

·  Government: What does the government of the mainstream society look like?

·  Law Enforcement: Who enforces the laws in your society?

Fringe Group Society Structure

·  What does your fringe group look like?

·  Demandments (need at least 5)

·  Troublemakers

·  Location

Wiki:

·  Fonts and colors must be used appropriately and be easy to read

·  Must contain at least two appropriate graphics (picture, chart, etc.)

·  Sources must be cited with links

Group Jobs: If you are going to complete this project in an orderly and timely manner, these are the jobs that I suggest you assign to each member of your group. You may vary from these jobs, and you should not think that you are only to complete tasks that fall under your job description. These jobs are places to start until each group member figures out what he/she is best able to do to help things run smoothly.

Job / Description / Group Member Assigned
Research and Citation (may need two group members) / Looks up information and related resources to use as hyperlinks. Also looks up background information about each topic (so that what you have made up actually connects to reality). If the creativity director is making the skeleton for your project, then you are creating the flesh and bones.
Creativity Director
(may need two group members) / Follows the assignment created by the teacher and creates the skeleton for your issue in your invented society.
Task Master / Makes sure that everyone is on the same page and working in the same direction. Keeps all members of the group on task.
Compiler / Puts all of the information together in a comprehensive manner so that it makes sense and is well organized. If the creativity director is making the skeleton for your project, and the research and citation team is making the flesh and bones then you are putting all of the parts together so they are in the right place.

Group Presentation:

Your group will also present your wiki to the class. Your wiki will be displayed on the active board for you to refer to. You will be evaluated in the following areas:

·  All members must participate in explaining the issue/solution equally

·  Presentation is organized and flows appropriately

·  Wiki is not “read” to the class, but rather explained

Wiki Rules:

·  All content must be school appropriate related to the unit.

·  Do NOT mess around with wikis belonging to any other group

·  Do NOT post anything to any Wiki that is not your own groups’ wiki

·  Follow all procedures as described by your teacher (read the directions to figure out what you are supposed to do).

Posting to the WikiSpace:

·  Type your assignment into a word document and save.

o  Check it for spelling and punctuation errors before you post it.

·  Login to preap8unwinds.wikispaces.com

·  Login using your group’s log in information

·  Select your group’s topic to bring up your page

·  To add content to your page, chose the “edit” tab on the top left

o  You may edit your page from here by copying and pasting your information or by uploading the document (see instructions below)

o  If you are uploading the document, make sure you remove the guiding questions and the scoring guide from it, or they will upload as well

To upload a document:

·  Name your file TopicPreAPQuestion – otherwise your document will upload over someone else’s if they have the same name

·  Click the “Edit” in the top right hand corner
