A RESOLUTION memorializing Douglas Mark Weinberg and adjourning the House of Representatives in his honor and memory.

With deepest respect and admiration, we pay homage and tribute to Douglas Mark Weinberg, and we pause in silent reverence for his soul.

WHEREAS, Douglas Mark Weinberg was a native son of the Commonwealth of Kentucky, born in Lexington in Fayette County; and

WHEREAS, Douglas Mark Weinberg was the beloved son of Lauren Weinberg, who preceded him in death, and Harold Weinberg, and he was the beloved brother of Brian Weinberg; and

WHEREAS, Douglas Mark Weinberg distinguished himself academically and through his hard work was named a National Merit Semifinalist in Lafayette High School; and

WHEREAS, Douglas Mark Weinberg further distinguished himself academically by graduating with honors in anthropology from the University of Kentucky; and

WHEREAS, Douglas Mark Weinberg distinguished himself professionally by serving as Field Director and Principal Supervisor of the Belize Valley Archeological Reconnaissance Macal River Project, overseeing the reconnaissance and excavation of archeological sites in western Belize; and

WHEREAS, Douglas Mark Weinberg's subsequent project report is bringing attention to the consequences of the construction of a hydroelectric dam that would flood the many sites of the archeological discoveries and that would also threaten the habitat of the Scarlet Macaw, which is an endangered species; and

WHEREAS, Douglas Mark Weinberg was an archeologist for the Belize Tourism Project and in such capacity was instrumental in the excavation and restoration of many Mayan structures, notably located in Altun Ha and Caracol, which were featured in American Archeology; and

WHEREAS, Douglas Mark Weinberg wanted to use his professional experiences as a catalyst for the humanitarian causes of international aid and relief; and

WHEREAS, Douglas Mark Weinberg distinguished himself as being an affable and intelligent person; and

WHEREAS, Douglas Mark Weinberg died March 13, 2005;

NOW, THEREFORE,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives of the General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Kentucky:

Section 1. The House of Representatives does hereby express to the family and friends of Douglas Mark Weinberg its most profound sense of sorrow on the occasion of his passing.

Section 2. The House of Representatives affirms that Douglas Mark Weinberg, both personally and professionally, has had a positive impact upon not only the citizens of the Commonwealth of Kentucky and the United States of America, but also the countries in which he has traveled and worked, whose citizens, including those who have had the pleasure of making his acquaintance, and those who have not, may further reap the benefits of his work.

Section 3. When the House of Representatives adjourns this day, it shall take account of the works of Douglas Mark Weinberg and shall adjourn in his honor and memory.

Section 4. The Clerk of the House of Representatives is directed to transmit three copies of this Resolution to Harold Weinberg, 8 Landsdowne Estates, Lexington, Kentucky 40502.
