A RESOLUTION adjourning the House of Representatives in loving memory and honor of Frederick E. Nichols.

With deepest respect and admiration, we pay homage and tribute to Frederick E. Nichols, and we pause in silent reverence for his soul.

WHEREAS, Frederick E. Nichols was born on August 4, 1927, a native of Hopkins County, Kentucky, and he traversed these earthly bounds on August 17, 2004; and

WHEREAS, Frederick E. Nichols was the loving son of the late Earle M. and Opal Beshear Nichols; he was the devoted husband of the late Mary Evelyn Pollitte Nichols; he was the loving father of two sons, Gordon Earle Nichols of Brentwood, Tennessee, and Christopher R. Nichols of Nashville, Tennessee, and a daughter, Leigh Nichols Moore of Louisville; he was the proud grandfather of Henry Wallace Nichols, Laura Jeanne Nichols, and Robert Dawson Nichols of Brentwood, Tennessee, and Robert Wiley Moore II and Frederick McFadden Moore of Louisville; and he also leaves behind a loving brother-in-law, C. Edward Beshear of Dawson Springs; and

WHEREAS, Frederick E. Nichols graduated from Madisonville High School, the University of Kentucky School of Commerce, and the University of Kentucky Law School; and he was in private practice at the law firm of Nichols and Nichols in Madisonville from 1953 until 2003; and he served as city attorney for Dawson Springs for several years; and

WHEREAS, Frederick E. Nichols was a loyal member of the Democratic Party; he served his constituents from Hopkins County with pride and honor in the Kentucky House of Representatives from 1959 to 1961, and he represented the 6th District, encompasing Christian and Hopkins counties, in the Kentucky Senate from 1961 to 1963; and during his career as a public servant, we are reminded that ethics and integrity played a large part toward his achievement as an outstanding member of the Kentucky General Assembly; and

WHEREAS, Frederick E. Nichols was appointed legal counsel for the Kentucky Public Service Commission from 1964 to 1968; and in 1994, he served as a special justice of the Kentucky Supreme Court; and

WHEREAS, Frederick E. Nichols was a man for all seasons; he was a good friend to many and a prolific correspondent, providing his loving family and acquaintances with information about sports, history, politics, literary affairs, and all things occurring in and about his beloved Hopkins County; and

WHEREAS, it is with fond recollection that we remember Frederick E. Nichols, not only for his many accomplishments and friendships he made and sustained through the years, but also his compassion for and understanding of the common man, which he demonstrated daily; and

WHEREAS, the passing of Frederick E. Nichols has left a void that cannot be filled, and he is mourned across the length and breadth of the Commonwealth;

NOW, THEREFORE,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives of the General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Kentucky:

Section 1. The House of Representatives does hereby express its profound sense of sorrow upon the passing of Frederick E. Nichols, and extends to his family and many friends its most heartfelt sympathy.

Section 2. When the House of Representatives adjourns this day, it does so in loving memory and honor of Frederick E. Nichols.

Section 3. The Clerk of the House of Representatives is hereby directed to transmit a copy of this Resolution to Mr. Gordon E. Nichols, 6418 Arden Court, Brentwood, Tennessee 37037.
