A RESOLUTION relating to the recent storm and tornado damage sustained by the citizens of Crittenden County and the communities of Crayne, Piney Fork, and Shady Grove, Kentucky.

WHEREAS, the recent storm and tornado which passed through Crittenden County and the communities of Crayne, Piney Fork, and Shady Grove, Kentucky, has been recognized as the most devastating storm that the citizens of those localities have experienced in 200 years, leaving in its flooded path a trail of destruction with damaged or destroyed homes, businesses, barns, and silos; and

WHEREAS, this honorable body takes note of the many reports detailing the timely response of scores of individuals and public and private agencies to meet the needs and offset the deprivations of the citizens of Crittenden County and the communities of Crayne, Piney Fork, and Shady Grove, Kentucky, and the surrounding areas that have resulted from the recent storm, with the responses being facilitated due to public and private cooperation in local and statewide emergency management programs; and

WHEREAS, there remains much to be done in assisting the people of Crittenden County and the communities of Crayne, Piney Fork, and Shady Grove, Kentucky, and the surrounding areas in putting their lives, homes, businesses, and farms in order after this storm;

NOW, THEREFORE,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives of the General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Kentucky:

Section 1. This honorable body wishes to express and extend its heartfelt sympathy to those citizens living in Crittenden County and the communities of Crayne, Piney Fork, and Shady Grove, Kentucky, and in the surrounding areas, whose lives, homes, businesses, and farms were affected by the recent storm and tornado.

Section 2. This honorable body commends those many individuals and agencies, both public and private, which have so quickly responded to the needs of the people in and around Crittenden County and the communities of Crayne, Piney Fork, and Shady Grove, Kentucky, and in the surrounding areas, and expresses its gratitude for their tireless efforts in assisting their fellow Kentuckians through this difficult time.

Section 3. This honorable body encourages the Governor of the Commonwealth of Kentucky, the Honorable Paul Patton, to exercise the full extent of his authority as the head of the executive branch of government to mobilize and make use of all available means, both state and federal, of assisting both the residents of Crittenden County and the communities of Crayne, Piney Fork, and Shady Grove, Kentucky, as well as those affected persons living in the surrounding areas.

Section 4. The Clerk of the House of Representatives is directed to immediately transmit a copy of this resolution upon its passage to the Governor of the Commonwealth of Kentucky, the Honorable Paul Patton, Room 100, State Capitol Building, Frankfort, Kentucky, 40601.
