A RESOLUTION adjourning the Senate in loving memory and honor of Dr. Robert "Bob" William Lyon Sr.

With deepest respect and admiration, we pay homage and tribute to Dr. Robert "Bob" William Lyon Sr.

WHEREAS, Robert William Lyon Sr. was born on March 15, 1929, a native of Peoria, Illinois, and longtime resident of Wilmore, Jessamine County, Kentucky, and he traversed these earthly bounds on January 28, 2004; and

WHEREAS, Robert William Lyon Sr. was the loving son of the late George and Mary Barack Lyon; he was the devoted husband of Judith Carolyn McGilvray Lyon; he was the loving father of two sons, Dr. Robert William Lyon Jr. of Defiance, Ohio, and Paul Alan Lyon of Lexington; he was the loving father-in-law of Kristine Lyon and Kimberly Lyon; he was the loving grandfather of five grandchildren, Christopher Paul Lyon, Joshua Robert Lyon, John Robert Lyon, Allison Gillian Lyon, and Annabeth Grace Lyon; and he also leaves behind two brothers, George Lyon of Ohio, and Donald Lyon of Kansas City Missouri; and a loving aunt, Emma Waltermire of Stow, Ohio; and

WHEREAS, Robert William Lyon Sr. graduated from Stow High School in Stow, Ohio; he received his bachelor of science degree in 1951 from Ohio University in Athens, Ohio; in 1954, he received his M. Div. from Asbury Theological Seminary in Wilmore; in 1956, he received his Th.M. from Princeton Seminary in Princeton, New Jersey; and, in 1959, he received his Ph.D. from the University of St. Andrews in St. Andrews, Scotland; and

WHEREAS, Robert William Lyon Sr. was the pastor of Laporte United Methodist Church in Laporte, Ohio, from 1959 to 1966; he was a professor of New Testament interpretation at Asbury Theological Seminary in Wilmore from 1966 to 1998; he was an ordained minister of the East Ohio Conference of the United Methodist Church, and he attended First United Methodist in Lexington; he was a member of the Society of Biblical Literature and SNTS; he helped found the Ichthus Christian Music Festival in Wilmore in 1970; and he was an avid Cleveland Indians and Cleveland Browns fan; and

WHEREAS, the passing of Robert "Bob" William Lyon Sr. has left a void that cannot be filled, and he is mourned across the length and breadth of the Commonwealth;

NOW, THEREFORE,

Be it resolved by the Senate of the General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Kentucky:

Section 1. The Senate does hereby express its profound sense of sorrow upon the passing of Dr. Robert "Bob" William Lyon Sr., and extends to his family and many friends its most heartfelt sympathy.

Section 2. When the Senate adjourns this day, it does so in loving memory and honor of Dr. Robert "Bob" William Lyon Sr.

Section 3. The Clerk of the Senate is hereby directed to transmit a copy of this Resolution to Mrs. Judith Carolyn McGilvray Lyon, 411 Akers Drive, Wilmore, Kentucky 40390.
