ACTION PLAN Template 2015-16

Action Plans are the University process for documenting, monitoring and evaluating the quality of the learning opportunities provided within a module or programme of study, the maintenance of academic standards, engagement with students regarding the quality of their experiences, and for assessing progress against the University’s strategic ambitions. Plans should focus on enhancement, highlighting areas of particularly effective practices which others may wish to note, and document developments within programmes and modules that address pedagogical, disciplinary, and (where appropriate) sector/industrial/professional initiatives, policy and practice.Actions should be mapped into the appropriate Sections, rows 1-7 as in previous years. To enhance transparency the TLSE criteria are mapped onto this template:

Each Section should include actions against TLSE and SEF. Section 3 for example includes actions addressing “Assessment and Feedback” as per SEF and “Goal 2: Inspiring Learning Opportunities” as per TLSE.

References to the maintenance of academic standards should be specifically included in Section 1 (aligned with “High quality programmes and curricula” under TLSE), and Section 3 (“Assessment and Feedback” under SEF), but might also be included elsewhere as appropriate.

Module/programme action plans may include additional Section below which map against other internal (e.g. School and Faculty strategic plans) and/or external (e.g. government policy, professional accreditation) drivers as appropriate.

Appendix.

Module Plan Appendix: Module plans should include:

  • A list of the programmes which students enrolled on the module are drawn from
  • The module pass rate and mean (where the module is not assessed on a P/F basis) at first attempt, and, when available, following re-submission.
  • Changes to the module made as a result of approval processes, including permitted/minor and exceptional changes and programme (re)approval. Where the module directly replaces another module, the module code and title should be specified.
  • The Subject External Examiner(s) reviewing work for the module (where applicable) and the Subject Assessment Panel at which the module is considered.

Programme Plan Appendix: Programme plans should include:

  • A list of all the modules currently included in the programme, including those that are available as electives/optional modules.
  • A list of the named awards/programmes encompassed by this action plan (including pathways and major/minor combinations).
  • Attainment and (where appropriate) progression rates. Programme pass rates and degree classification data.
  • Changes to the programme made as a result of approval processes, including permitted and exceptional changes and programme (re)approval. Where the programme directly replaces another programme, the programme name and course code should be specified.
  • Subject Assessment Panel(s) which consider the modules on the programme and the Subject External Examiners reviewing those modules
  • The Award Assessment Board at which progression and attainment decisions regarding individual students are made and the name(s) of the Award External Examiner(s) attending the Award Board.
