Instruction
Structured Practice and
Application
_35_ Minutes
What will you say and do?
What questions will you ask?
What will students do? / I will explain that we are going to have a mock election in our classroom.
I will separate students into small groups. I will explain that each group will be conducting their own campaign in order to elect a president for their classroom. I will instruct each small group to pick one candidate to represent their group. I will give each group a list of activities to choose from. Students will be creating their own campaign commercial, creating a rap/song, writing a campaign speech, writing a campaign poem, or creating a poster. I will explain that when creating their campaign supplies, the group should decide on the characteristics they believe are important for a president or leader to have. I will explain that after 20 minutes of creating their own campaign, the candidate from each group will present what they have created. After the candidates have finished their presentations, we will vote for the winner as a whole class.
