Job Title: Lecturer Learning Disability Nursing

SUMMARY OF MAIN PURPOSE OF THE JOB
The College of Nursing, Midwifery and Healthcare, brings together a comprehensive range of expertise in the caring and enabling professions. Our academic staff, supported by learning resource, administrative and technical staff, deliver an exciting range of academic courses and research in Healthcare, Nursing, Midwifery, Operating Department Practice and Public health.
The post holder will lead on, and/or participate in and/or contribute to, the delivery and continuing development of modules and/or programmes, offered by the College of Nursing, Midwifery and Healthcare.
Working closely with the programme team, the post holder will provide support to students undertaking modules and/or programmes at the College and to students/mentors in clinical environments.
As a member of the academic team, the post holder will assist in the development of professional, academic, research and scholarly profile of learning disability nursing, and College of Nursing, Midwifery and Healthcare.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
1.  Deliver and contribute to the development of modules within the learning disabilities field of nursing and/or programmes within the College of Nursing, Midwifery and Healthcare.
2.  Develop a high quality of teaching and learning materials to support the delivery of the modules/programmes.
3.  Deliver innovative teaching, learning and assessment strategies that enhance the student learning experience of students on learning disabilities nursing related modules and /or programmes, and other programmes within the College of Nursing, Midwifery and Healthcare.
4.  Support students through various programme(s), acting as personal tutor, monitoring their progression and supporting their key and academic skills development.
5.  Supervise students undertaking project work, e.g., dissertations.
6.  Work in partnership with the programme team, clinical practice staff and their managers, and service users to deliver high quality modules/programmes relevant to the needs of learning disabilities service users and their carers/families/significant others.
7.  Support engagement with partner Trusts and other stakeholders, and support learners and manager/clinical placement facilitators/mentors in practice.
8.  Support and contribute to applied research, professional practice and other scholarly activity in support of the College’s academic development programme.
9.  Take responsibility for ensuring one’s own academic and professional development within the field of learning disabilities care is maintained.
10.  Be involved in the recruitment and selection process of students and all others commensurate with the grade of lecturer.
11.  Carrying out all administrative responsibilities and participate fully in quality assurance processes within the University.
12.  Undertake the PGCert Education (if no NMC teaching qualification) and to register for Higher study at the first opportunity.

Qualifications: / Degree in relevant subject.
Registration with the NMC as a learning disabilities nurse or RGN / RMN / RN Child health with significant experience of working with people with learning disabilities. / Teaching qualification recognised by the NMC
Further post registration study e.g. Masters / MPhil etc.
Experience in working in an HE environment/setting i.e. honorary/associate lecturer
A publication record, including experience of publishing articles in peer-reviewed journals
Knowledge and Experience: / Knowledge of current practice in teaching and learning in healthcare
Knowledge of the use of evidence to support delivery of care
Use innovative and appropriate teaching techniques and materials
Skills to work in a dynamic environment that can be challenging at times.
Experience in supporting and assessing staff and students undertaking learning disabilities nursing courses and programmes
Experience in assessing competencies in practice and supporting mentors
Experience of being involved in research related activity
Experience of coaching and mentoring learners / Experience in a wide range of different learning disability settings such as inpatient and community settings.
Experience of undertaking research.
Experience of leading, developing, and delivering modules.
Knowledge of lifespan development health issues.
Knowledge of the physical and mental health needs of people with learning disabilities.
