By accepting this appointment as a Resident Assistant for the 2016-2017 academic year, I understand and agree that:

  1. The Resident Assistant term of employment is from ______to______. The duties officially begin as assigned by the Residence Hall Director. The Resident Assistant shall remain on duty until officially released by the Resident Hall Director, and may not move out without approval from the Resident Hall Director.
  2. Resident Assistant compensation is a room in the assigned hall and meal plan.
  3. A Resident Assistant is a student staff member of the Division of Student Services. The Resident Assistant articulates the mission, vision, and policies of the University and the Division of Student Services.
  4. The Resident Assistant must maintain a 2.50 or higher cumulative grade point average and remainin good standing. If a Resident Assistant grade point average falls below a 2.50 at any time during employment, the Resident Assistant will be placed on probation and have one semester to improve his/her academic status.
  1. The Resident Assistant shall maintain ongoing communication with the Residence Hall Directors and other Resident Assistants. The Resident Assistant is directly responsible to the Residence Hall Directors.
  1. The Resident Assistant is to act as a positive representative of the University and the Division of Student Services. The Resident Assistant serves as a role model at all times. Resident Assistants will not participate in social media postings that reflect negatively on USAO, Student Services, and Housing.
  1. Resident Assistants must be responsible in carrying out all duties, and are required to maintain confidentiality in all situations.
  1. The Resident Assistant will document all situations involving maintenance, violations, and emergencies.
  1. The Resident Assistant encourages interaction, responsibility, and building community within the residence hall. Resident Assistants are expected to get to know all residents in their assigned area within the first two (2) weeks of the academic term. The Resident Assistant serves as a mentor, advisor, and referral agent for residents.
  1. Outside of class, the Resident Assistant position is your primary responsibility.
  1. The Resident Assistant is expected to plan programs and participate in housing meetings. He/she will encourage resident participation.
  1. The Resident Assistant is expected to respond to emergency situations according to their training.
  1. The Resident Assistant works with students to mediate minorconflicts in campus housing under the direction of the Residence Hall Director.
  1. The Resident Assistant attends all staff meetings, training programs, training sessions, leadership retreats, and in-service workshops.
  1. During assigned duty, the Resident Assistantis required to remain on campus. The duty schedule will be set by the Resident Director at the beginning of each trimester.
  1. Resident Assistants must report all lost, damaged, or broken keys immediately.
  1. The Resident Assistant’s job performance will be evaluated on a continual basis. It is expected that the Resident Assistant will satisfactorily meet all duties and responsibilities identified.
