IMPORTANT INFORMATION

For the attention of the candidate: Please read the below points very carefully and ensure that you completely understand the terms and conditions before you proceed to complete the application.

The University of Liverpool Faculty Postgraduate Scholarships 2012/13is available only to international students who have been accepted onto a taught postgraduate (Masters) programme of study, at the University of Liverpool. These are merit-based scholarships designed to reward academic excellence.

Number: Up to 50 Scholarships

Value: £3,000 reduction in tuition fees per scholarship

  1. Eligibility Criteria

To be considered for the PG Faculty Scholarships you must:

  • be a national of a country outside the European Union and the UK
  • liable to pay full tuition fees at the “overseas” rate
  • have been made an offer of a place on a taught Masters programme at the University of Liverpool. Taught Masters programmes include all MSc, MBA, MA, MRes and MSc (Eng.) programs taught at the University
  • Appropriate competence in English is preferred
  • Have a record of academic excellence

The general quality of your application and personal statement will be important factors in the selection process. Your personal statement must detail the reasons why you wish to come to Liverpool to study your chosen course.

Please note: While you may defer your admission to the following year, an offer of scholarship may not be deferred. You will, however be eligible to re-apply for the scholarship, in the year that you do enter the program.

Exceptions

  • You will not be eligible for this scholarship if you are fully funded by a third party such as a government or commercial organisation (e.g. KASP; Qatar Petroleum, Saudi Aramco etc.,)or awarding body (e.g. Fulbright).
  • The PG Faculty Award cannot be held in conjunction with any other external or internal scholarship, that the student may receive from the University of Liverpool or any of its external partners (For e.g., The ARM Scholarship; The Hodgson Law Scholarships etc.,)
  1. Deadlines

There are 2 rounds to this scholarship competition. Please apply by either the first deadline of 13th April 2012for Round 1or the deadline of 06th July 2012 for Round 2. The eligibility criteria will be the same for both rounds.

Please note: You only need to send in one application. In the event, you are not successful in Round 1; you are not eligible to apply for Round 2.

  1. Notification of outcome / result
  • All applicants will receive an email within 5 working days to confirm the initial decision, i.e., whether they have been rejected or if they have been shortlisted for consideration of the scholarship.
  • We will inform you by email if you have been successful in your application. Candidates applying by the first deadline will receive email notifications of whether they have been successful or not, by April 27th2012 and those applying by the second deadline will receive email notifications by mid July 2012.
  • If you have been awarded a scholarship, these e-mails will explain in detail, what you need to do next and how to confirm acceptance of your scholarship. As such, please make it a point to check your mail regularly and follow instructions carefully on all such e-mails.
  • If you have received an acknowledgement from us, stating that we would contact you by a certain date, please wait till you do so, before contacting the University.

All communication between the University and scholarship applicants is through e-mail. It is the applicant’s responsibility to ensure that the most up-to-date and accurate e-mail address is provided on the application form and to check his/her e-mail regularly and as such, it is hoped the applicant will do so diligently, so as to receive all relevant communication from the University in a timely manner.

Please note: No letters will be provided to successful candidates to confirm the award. Only e-mails will be sent to confirm the awarding of the scholarship.

  1. Reserve list of candidates

It may so happen, during the scholarship process that certain applications are shortlisted during a particular round, but may not have been awarded the scholarship in that round. These applications may be moved to a reserve list and will be considered at the end of the process.

As such, if you happen to be one of the candidates whose application has been moved to the Reserve list, you will receive a separate mail informing you of this.

  1. Scholarship letters

Please note, as part of the new student visa regulations, the University of Liverpool will not be sending out separate scholarship letters to the student.

You will be sent an e-mail to confirm the award of a scholarship and all information of any fee reductions will be recorded on your CAS statement, which is the preferred method of notification for the UK Border Agency.

NOTES FOR GUIDANCE

The University of Liverpool Faculty Postgraduate Scholarships 2012/13is available to international students who have been accepted on a taught postgraduate (Masters) programme of study at the University of Liverpool.

These are merit-based scholarships designed to reward academic excellence.

Number: Up to 50 Scholarships

Value: £3,000 reduction in tuition fees per scholarship

  1. Financial hardship

Financial hardship is not a criterion for this award.

You will be required to pay the remaining portion of your tuition fees (at the overseas rate) and all living expenses.

As an international student, you will also be required to prove that you have sufficient funding to cover tuition fees and living expenses in order to obtain entry clearance (your visa) for the UK.

In your application, you should explain how you will meet the additional costs for your tuition and living expenses.

  1. Completing the Application Form

The application form has been designed to be as easy to complete as possible. However, the following notes may help to guide you through the form.

SECTION 1: We use this information to tie your scholarship application to your University offer and to ensure we have an address where you can be contacted. A valid email address is essential. Please make sure that you enter your email address clearly.

Make sure that you quote your Student ID number correctly. This normally begins with 200......

SECTION 2: Asks about your education and qualifications to date. Please give full details and ensure that you provide transcripts in English which verify the information you provide. You must also provide proof of your level of English.

SECTION 3: Asks about your (other) sources of funding to confirm you are able to cover the remainder of your fees and costs

DECLARATION BY THE APPLICANT: You must ensure that you have given full and accurate information on your application form. By signing this declaration, you are agreeing that any information you have given, which if later found to be untrue or misleading, may result in the scholarship being withdrawn and you being required to pay back any money which the University has paid to you.

  1. Required Attachments

1) A PERSONAL STATEMENT must be attached to your application form. This statement must be typewritten or word-processed and no longer than 500 words. The Personal Statement is an important part of your application. You must use it to explain why you want to study at the University of Liverpool and how your chosen course is intended to help you to achieve your career or life goals. Give specific personal reasons for choosing your course at the University of Liverpool, rather than vague generic statements.

2) TRANSCRIPTS OR CERTIFICATES must also be attached to your application form detailing marks obtained in examinations at school/college and/or university. Please also note, in case your transcripts are in a language other than English, they must be translated when sending the application.

3) EVIDENCE OF ENGLISH LANGUAGE ABILITY must also be provided.

  1. Deadlines

The deadline for Round 1 of this scholarship competition is 13th April 2012. The deadline for the second round, is 06thJuly 2012.

If the above documentation is not received by the deadline, or the applicant has not been accepted as yet or been given an offer of a place at the University at the time of consideration for a Scholarship, the application will be not be considered.
