*** Summer applications completed after the June 13th deadline will NOT be processed. ***

* Students must be enrolled full time (12 hours) for summer to receive additional funding over $20,500.

Post-baccalaureate (PB) eligibility varies per classification. Contact SFA for determination.

Total Aid (Grant + Loan + Other resources) can NOT exceed the cost of attendance.

** To determine maximum eligibility for dependent or independent Unsubsidized Stafford Loan, the amount received from a Subsidized Stafford Loan will be subtracted from the maximum loan limit for your grade level.

For example, if you borrowed $4,500 as a sophomore during the 2007-2008 academic year (Fall/Spring) and you are now classified by the University as a junior for the Summer 2008, your summer loan eligibility will be the difference of $5,500 and $4,500 or unmet need, whichever is less. In the case that you did not advance to the junior classification, you would not be eligible to receive a loan for Summer 2008. The next period for which you are eligible to receive a loan would begin with the Fall 2008.

3.  PLUS loans for undergraduate & graduate students may not exceed the cost of attendance minus other aid. To obtain a PLUS loanfor Summer 2008, complete the 2008 Summer Data Form. In addition, the parent or graduate borrower must go to TG Loans By Web (https://lbw.tgslc.org). Select “I am a parent borrower” for undergraduate PLUS or “I am a graduate student borrower” for graduate students. At the end of this process, you will submit your information to the lender that you have selected for a credit check. Most lenders will respond with your credit decision within 48 hours. Once the credit decision is received by our office, we will process the Undergraduate PLUS or Graduate PLUS loan. To prevent delays, please make sure the Parent Section of the Summer Loan Request is completed. If your parent is an eligible non-citizen, they will need to provide a copy of their visa to SFA prior to disbursement.

In the event that the PLUS loan is denied for undergraduate students, an Unsubsidized Stafford Loan will be processed for the student. If eligible, students will be notified to complete the process by going to Loans By Web (https://lbw.tgslc.org.)

4.  Private alternative educational loans are also available to students, in an amount not greater than a summer student budget less other aid awarded for the summer. To apply you must complete the 2008 Summer Data Form and apply directly to the lender of your choice online.

Disbursement of Federal Pell Grant

Disbursement of the Pell Grant begins on the first day of classes. Grants are applied as credit on your university student account. You must have at least six (6) active hours of enrollment before a Pell Grant can be paid. In the event that you enroll for less than six (6) hours during any combination of the sessions, beginning with Session I, your Pell Grant will not be applied to your account until you register for Summer II for a total of six (6) credit hours.

Disbursement of Other Grants and Scholarships

Disbursement begins on the first day of classes. Grants and scholarships are applied as credit on your university student account.

Disbursement of Loan Proceeds

In order to receive a loan for summer enrollment, you must enroll for six credit hours (five hours for graduate students) for any six, nine or twelve week session. In the event that you enroll for only three hours during any of the sessions that begin in Summer I and enroll for three credit hours in Summer II, you will not be permitted to pick up or receive funds until Fee Payment for Summer II.

For PLUS loan borrowers who are eligible non-citizens, a copy of the borrower’s visa must be submitted to SFA along with the Summer Data Form.

Electronic Funds Transfer Process

The EFT process involves funds being transmitted electronically and applied directly to your university student account paying your tuition and fees without the use of paper checks. If you selected a lender that guarantees with Texas Guaranteed (TG) your funds will be sent via EFT. Students using a lender that does not participate with TG will receive funds by check.

Master Promissory Note

A Master Promissory Note is a loan application in which you may receive multiple subsidized and unsubsidized Federal Stafford Loans over a maximum ten-year period. This allows you to sign a MPN the first year and borrow against that MPN the entire time you are attending school for up to ten years as long as you stay with the same lender. You still need to complete a Summer Data Form to apply for a Federal Stafford Loan.

Other Requirements

In order to receive aid from any of these programs, you must meet all eligibility requirements defined by program guidelines and federal regulations.

Please Note: If you do not enroll in the exact number of credit hours in the exact sessions indicated on
your 2008 Summer Data Form, your loan will be canceled and your grants may be revised.
