The Department of Drama, together with its resource unit, the Little Theatre, is located on the Hiddingh Campus of the University of Cape Town.The Little Theatre provides theatre spaces and facilities for theatre research, as well as coordinates a dynamic programme of classical, contemporary and experimental student and staff productions throughout the academic year.

The Drama Department seeks to appoint a Wardrobe Seamstress to assist the Head of Wardrobe: to sew, alter and repair costumes and stage scenery materials in preparation for all Drama Department, Little Theatre and other contracted productions and class project needs; to assist with the upkeep of all aspects of the wardrobe and the hire and loan of costumes to the public and to students.

Requirements:

·  Grade 12 and/or equivalent relevant industry experience

·  Qualification, and/or relevant experience, in theatre wardrobe through a portfolio of work/references

·  Experience in the theatre, film or television wardrobe environment

·  Ability to work theatre hours as defined by the Little Theatre management

·  Ability to work with various types of fabric, trim, fasteners and patterns

·  Ability to use all of the following: hand sewing needles, cutting sheers, serger machine, iron, fabric steamer, hot glue gun, sequins/stud machine, over-locking, dyeing and ageing of fabric.

Computer skills (MS Word, email and Internet Explorer) will be advantageous.

Responsibilities:

·  Sewing, cutting, making, repairing and altering of costumes as per design

·  General wardrobe duties

·  Loan and hire of costumes

·  Supervision of students

·  Assisting students on strike procedures on all productions and projects

·  Providing support for the teaching and production programme as required by the Department.

The annual cost of employment, including benefits for 2013 is between R141483 and R166 490. The annual remuneration for 2014 is currently under review.
