Job purpose
Research Information and Intelligence (RII) is a core activity of the University’s Research and Innovation Services (RIS) and is working to ensure that the information we hold about the research undertaken at the University is as accurate and as accessible as possible and our communications with internal and external stakeholder are as effective as possible in order to maximise opportunities for research funding. The University is required to make a number of reports to external funders and government agencies including the Research Excellence Framework (REF), ResearchFish and the Higher Education Business and Community Interactions Survey (HE-BCI). This role will be key in supporting the University in making these returns in as streamlined a way as possible, maximising the outcomes while reducing the administrative burden on academic departments.
The job holder will be required to build effective relationships with staff across the University in academic and professional service departments including the Library, Finance, Marketing & Communications, Alumni Relations and Office of Policy & Planning.

Main duties and responsibilities
1 / Planning & Organising
·  Contribute to planning to inform the development of the University’s submission for national research reporting and assessment initiatives, such as the Research Excellence Framework (REF) and external reporting requirements such as HEBCIS and ResearchFish.
·  Contribute to planning the schedule of business for the University’s Impact Operations Group.
·  Contribute to the work of the Research Information & Intelligence (RII) Team by identifying improvements to research reporting.
·  Work with the Head of RII and the Research Impact Manager to develop and implement new processes and systems to support the collection of research information required for external reporting, in line with Government directives
2 / Liaison
• Liaise, communicate, influence and build working relationships with academic and support staff at all levels of seniority, including Associate Deans (Research) and Directors of Research
• Present analyses of REF and other reporting related data to internal or external meetings as required.
• Represent the RII Team on working groups as appropriate
3 / Customer Services & Support
·  Respond independently to REF, HEBCIS, ResearchFish and other external reporting related data queries from Directors, Senior Managers and others.
·  Provide expert advice and guidance on research information data sources and reports, to support informed decision-making and benchmarking.
·  Act as Secretary to the University’s Impact Operations Group and HEBCIS Steering Group, working with the Head of RII and Research Impact Manager in setting the agenda, collating papers and reports, and preparing minutes and action lists.
4 / Analysis, Reporting and Documentation
·  Develop, evaluate, interpret and present reports and analyses to inform the planning of the University’s submission to external reporting initiatives such HE-BCI and the next Research Excellence Framework (REF).Using a variety of tools, databases and sources, work with the RII Team to provide enhanced management information and intelligence for the University Research Committee, REF Strategy Group, Impact Operations Group, Directors of Research and Senior Managers.
·  Source, analyse and interpret performance, intelligence and benchmarking data from internal and external sources, identifying appropriate methods of analysis according to the data and objectives of the work.
5 / Continuous Improvement
·  Develop and maintain an awareness and understanding of Government and funding council policies on Higher Education research assessment and their influence on funding streams
6 / People Management
• Advise and gain the support and confidence of University staff at all levels of seniority, in order to maximise the effectiveness of the University’s external research reporting.
You will from time to time be required to undertake other duties of a similar nature as reasonably required by your line manager. You are required to follow all University policies and procedures at all times and take account of University guidance
