  • Students entering the 4th grade in Fall 2009 have the option of attending one or both of the primary programs and/or taking courses on the Baylor campus.
  • An automatic $20.00 registration fee will be assessed for each participant. This fee covers the cost of the registration process.
  • Each UYP participant will receive the official UYP t-shirt for 2009.
  • Supplies listed under individual courses are to be provided by the students.
  • If you do not wish to receive the UYP catalog any longer, please inform the CCLE office by e-mailing to be removed from mailing list. Include UYP student’s full name and parent(s) name.

You will use the creative problem solving process as you simulate the creation of a new city in a new environment, exploring the various structures that make a city work. Through this process, you will participate in expert groups exploring topics such as engineering, economics, political science, communications, and natural environments. Activities will culminate in a final presentation. Parents are welcome to attend and visit the new cityyou helped create.

Explore the outdoor learning environment through various perspectives such as the arts, nutrition, botany, entomology, horticulture, technology, and culinary sciences. Produce natural dyes, harvest fruits and vegetables, analyze patterns in the natural world, and identify multiple locations using a GPS. Activities will culminate in a final product. Parents are welcome to attend the final showcase of your activities and products.

Ever wondered if plants can grow without seeds? Ever pondered how mold grows? Want to learn more about how animals survive in the wild? “It’s a Wonderful Life!” gives you the chance to investigate these interesting topics as well as other topics of your choice. You play a role in designing what you want to learn in this exciting, interesting, and, at times, icky life science class.

Explore your creative side by designing and creating cool paper crafts! Learn about and build basic simple machines, motorized machines, and robots as well as photosynthesis, chromosomes and DNA models--- all in a fun-filled, hands-on way. Plans are made to visit the MaybornMuseum to see the DaVinci exhibit.

Explore Asian art forms including Chinese screen and scroll painting, Kamashibai (a form of Japanese storytelling using illustrated cards), fans, and kites. Create your own interpretations of these traditional art forms using your knowledge of the history and cultured context behind them, as well as your own artistic vision. We will focus on both art making and art history. The class will culminate in a performance to showcase what we have learned.

Imagine and create your digital self! This class will introduce you to online virtual worlds and to learning online. While not a videogame, you will be introduced to an online three-dimensional world where you can create a digital self. You will learn to create buildings, clothes, digital sculptures, and vehicles for your digital selves, all in a collaborative environment.
Parents: The online environment does not allow adults to participate (except for teachers who have passed a background check), so it is a safe environment for students. The course will stress how to remain both safe and secure in online environments.
