Background to the 2015 U21 HS Summer School
According to the World Health Organization, vulnerability can be defined as “…the degree to which a population, individual or organization is unable to anticipate, cope with, resist and recover from the impacts of disasters”. A vulnerable condition requires the organized cooperation of every member of a multidisciplinary healthcare team to withstand the effects of a hostile environment.
The U21 HS Summer School is designed in three modules, so students can understand and apply concepts of vulnerability at three different levels: first, analyzing healthcare systems; second, focusing on processes of a specific healthcare organization and finally, at the level of vulnerable patients.
The Summer School will take an inter-professional learning approach, with students learning in multi-professional teams. The programme will also include visits to a healthcare center where students will apply the tools and knowledge acquired in the classroom. Besides they will have the opportunity to make cultural trips to visit the landmarks in Monterrey, Nuevo León, Mexico.
