USTA Northern Position Description

Position Title: Manager of USTA Team Northern

Reports To: Assistant Executive Director – Director of Junior Competition

A. PURPOSE OF POSITION:

To assist USTA Northern in its mission to promote and develop the growth of tennis with specific responsibilities including:Design, implement, optimize and manage and elite tennis program for USTA Northern’s most promising junior tennis players. The Manager of Team Northern is also a staff liaison to the Player ID and Development Committee. This position must have general knowledge of USTA Player Development, the junior competitive system within the United Statesand USTA Northern Junior Competition/Player Development programs and opportunities, while possessing a variety of skills to effectively execute the strategic priorities and core values of the position.

B. MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:

USTA Team Northern

1. Manager/Lead Coach of Team Northern.

2. Assist USTA Northern Player ID & Development in the selection of Team Northern Players.

3. Develop the selection process and selection criteria for Team Northern participants – manage the player application process.

4. Plan out a yearly calendar for Team Northern camps.

5. Secure host facilities for Team Northern camps.

6. Organize and facilitate each Team Northern camp.

7. Develop, incorporate and implement Team Northern training curriculum.

8. Along with the Director of Junior Competition, select coaches for all Team Northern camps.

9. Responsible for all communication with Team Northern coaches.

10. Develop or utilize existing tracking/logging/online maintenance system for players.

11. Help coordinate any necessary Team Northern travel.

12. Work with USTA Northern Controller in securing payment for coaches, facilities and miscellaneous items.

13. Work with USTA Northern Director of Marketing in developing Team Northern selection announcements, future marketing materials and Team Northern clothing.

14. Scheduling/selecting appropriate talent for strength training, mental, conditioning and nutrition.

15. Scheduling appropriate talent for parent/coach education opportunities.

16. Establishing and policing player code of conduct.

Staff Liaison –Player ID & Development Committee

1. Serves as a staff liaison to thePlayer ID and Development Committee.

C. GOALS:

TBD – Collaborate with USTA Northern staff and the Player ID and Development Committee.

Alignment of thought and vision with USTA Player Development

D. SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY:

USTA Team Northern coaches.

E. INTERNAL RELATIONSHIPS:

All USTA Northern Junior Staff, USTA Northern Player ID & Development Committee, USTA Northern Junior Competition Committee

F. EXTERNAL RELATIONSHIPS:

USTA Staff, High School and Collegiate Coaches and Contacts, Tennis Industry Association Staff, Public and Private Club Directors and Staff, Tennis Teaching Professionals, Tennis Sales Representatives, Retail Store Owners.

G. TRAVEL DEMANDS:

Possible–USTA Player Development meetings.

H. QUALIFICATIONS:

1. Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience.

2. Administrative and organizational skills including the ability to set and achieve goals.

3. Certified tennis teaching professional - USPTA and/or PTR.

4. Excellent communication skills, both oral and written.

5. Strong attention to detail and follow through.

6. Strong computer and social media skills (Microsoft, Excel, Facebook, Instagram).

7. USTA member.

8. Demonstrated ability in coaching and producing high level juniors on a section and national level.

9. Certified USTA High Performance Coach is preferred.

10. High energy and dedication to take the program to the next level.

11. Must establish trust and be able to build relationships.

12. Highly respected in the tennis community.

13. Willingness to learn and evolve with the changing tennis world.

14. Developed, managed and analyzed player performance metrics.
