World History and World Geography

Course Length: 11th grade World history is a semester long course. It will be taught in quarters one and two. Each quarter is 9 weeks in length. 11th grade World Geography will be taught during the second semester, quarters three and four.
Course Objectives: World History: Five themes will be covered in World History: The beginnings of Civilization, The growth of civilization, The World in Transition
(395-1573), The age of Exploration, Absolutism to Revolution, and The modern World. World Geography: Seven regional themes will be covered in World Geography: Physical geography, North America, Middle and South America, Europe, Asia, Africa, and the Pacific World.
Classroom Rules and Expectations: It is our belief that all students have the right to learn in a safe, positive, and supportive environment. It is the responsibility of each student to behave in a manner that does not infringe on the rights of others. Students are required to bring needed materials with them to class each day. Students should not expect to leave the classroom to return to their locker for an item they forgot to bring.

Attendance/Tardies: Please review the Springfield School Policy on absences and make-up work (policies 2.1, 2.2, and 2.3). Our tardy policy has changed this year. Students will be given detention after their 4th tardy. Please review Policy 2.4.
Food/Beverage Policy: No food or drink is allowed in the academic area.
Evaluation/Grades: Students will be graded on homework, projects, quizzes, and tests. Weighted categories will not be used. Points from all graded assignments will be combined and the following percentage will be used:
100-93 A 89-87 B+ 79-77 C+ 69-67 D+
92-90 A- 86-83 B 76-73 C 66-63 D
82-80 B- 72-70 C- 62-60 D-
