Unit Vocabulary Instruction Sheet

Direction: Select at least 4 different activities in order to define your vocabulary words. Clearly label each different activity. More than one activity may be on a sheet. Make sure you attach THIS SHEET to your packet when turning in the assignment.

Activity Choices:

1. Drawings – on folded paper make 8 (eight) drawings that explain eight words. Include a definition and the word with the drawing.
2. Original Sentences – Use one word in an original sentence. Do NOT copy or PARAPHRASE from the textbook. Someone who has never seen or read the word before should be able to understand it’s meaning from reading the sentence.
3. Collage – Cut the letters of the vocabulary word out of newspaper or magazines. Write the DEFINITION of the word. And include at least ONE picture that expresses the word or person.
4. Story – write a story using at least eight words and UNDERLINE each vocabulary word used.
5. Rap – Compose a rap tune using at least eight of the vocabulary words. Turn in the written version. Performing will earn extra points!!
6. Political Cartoon – Create a comic strip (at least 3 panels) or political cartoon expressing vocabulary words, phrases, or identifying people. A political cartoon expresses an opinion in a generally humorous manner.
7. Crossword/WordSearch – Using at least 10 (ten) words create a word search or crossword puzzle. In a crossword the definitions are the “clues”. If you choose a word search each word used must be defined on your sheet.

8. Freyer Model – One sheet per word used, maximum used in this method, 4 words. A paper is folded into 4 squares. One square the word is written and defined. One square the word is illustrated, one square is for a synonym/antonym. One square is for an original sentence.
