SECTION 23 82 23

Steel surfaces shall be cleaned, phosphatized, and prime coated with baked enamel. Zinc coated steel shall be used for parts in contact with conditioned air or condensate. Visible surfaces shall then have a final baked enamel finish coat as selected by Architect.

Discharge grilles shall be constructed of heavy steel bars.

Enclosures shall be acoustically and thermally insulated with matte faced glass fiber blanket material.

Furnish unit with a 6inch insulated false back with an insulated pipe pocket. Opening for outside air intake shall be at height shown on Drawings.

Dampers: Equip units with gasketed and tight sealing mixing dampers to ensure modulation and mixing of return and outside air. Arrangement of dampers shall prevent blowing outside air into classroom.

Bypass dampers shall be tight sealing and insulated for sound attenuation, prevention of condensate formation, and to minimize heat pick up in bypass.

Fan Board: Unit fan board assembly shall be a single, rigid assembly of heavy steel construction and include fans, fan housings, bearings, and fan shaft. Assembly shall be isolated inside unit. Fan wheels shall be the centrifugal forward curved, double width type.

Motors: Permanent split capacitor type, with integral thermal overload protection, capable of multiple speed operation. Motor shall be easily removable without the removal of the fan board. Refer to Section 200100, Electric Motor Schedule, or the Equipment Schedule for voltage and rpm requirements. Refer to Section 200100 for motor minimum efficiency.

Motors shall be designed specifically for unit ventilator operation and shall be autotransformer connected to allow up to 20percent adjustment of rated speed to meet individual system requirements. Motor shall be completely interchangeable with respect to unit size. Unit design shall permit removal and replacement of motor without removing or replacing fans. Fit motor cord with a polarized male plugin.

Furnish unit with a 3speed switch with thermal overload protection mounted inside cabinet.

Unit manufacturer shall provide one spare motor for each size and type motor furnished as a part of unit ventilator. If unit design is such that the entire fan and motor board assembly shall be removed in order to replace motor, then unit ventilator manufacturer shall furnish one spare fan and motor board assembly for each size and type unit.

Coils and Drain Pan: Coils and drain pans shall be easily removable from unit. Coils shall have continuous plate fin surface, with seamless copper tubes mechanically expanded into aluminum fin collars for secure, crackfree bonding. Leak testing shall be at 250psig air pressure under water.

SECTION 23 82 23

Water coils shall have a manual air vent located at their high point and a drain plug located at the low point. Leak testing shall be at 250psig air pressure under water.

Drain pans on units shall be internally pitched toward condensate drain, which shall be provided on coil connection end of unit. Provide a large condensate drain opening to prevent clogging.

Filters: Filters shall be removable on vertical units without unlocking front panel. Horizontal units shall have hinged bottom panels for access. Filters shall be throwaway type of woven glass fiber type media.

At time of Substantial Completion, and prior to turning equipment over to Owner, Contractor shall install a complete set of unused, clean filters in each unit supplying filtered air to the building. Provide (2) sets of prefilters (one during construction and one for Owner at Substantial Completion).

Outdoor Air Intakes: Aluminum masonry wall intake louver shall be constructed with horizontal waterproof [vertical chevron] type, 16gauge aluminum blades in a 12gauge aluminum frame. Intake shall be demountable type so that complete blade assembly may be removed from frame. Provide weepholes in intake frame. Furnish a 1/2inch square mesh galvanized screen on interior side of intake.

Refer to details on Architectural Drawings included with this set to determine louver sizes.

Horizontal louvers shall be vertically reinforced on 24inch centers.

Intake shall be anodized and coated with a metacrylate lacquer finish.

Intake shall have an anodized color finish meeting Architectural Association designation Class1, AAM10C22A44 in color matching Wausau Metal Corporation "Champagne Bronze Anolock" finish.

PART - EXECUTION

UNIT VENTILATOR INSTALLATION

Hydronic Univents: Hydronic univents shall be blow through type with face and bypass dampers with a wild coil.

Temperature Controls: Unit ventilator controls shall be as described in Section 230993. Temperature Control Contractor will ship the damper motors to the unit manufacturer for installation at the factory.

Anchors and Levelers: Floor tile shall extend under front of unit ventilator cabinet. Contractor shall provide necessary spacers under back of unit for a level installation. Provide anchors with spacers to anchor unit securely to masonry wall.

SECTION 23 82 23

Wall Louvers: Wall louvers and screens shall be furnished to applicable Contractor for installation. Install a duct connection between the louver and the unit ventilator inlet collar. No insulation to be exposed in air stream. The opening through the wall shall be sized to match the air box section of the Univent. This will help prevent the spillage of air into the control spaces of the Univent and/or classroom. Any stand used to increase the height of a Univent shall be made of heavy gauge steel, and should have prior approval by the appropriate Trades Shop.

Condensate Drain: Contractor shall provide a 1/2inch rigid copper tube connected to drain pan with a dielectric fitting. Tube shall pitch evenly to pass through wall 25/8inches below bottom of louver and elbow down 1/2inch out from wall. Provide insect screen in outlet.

Electrical: Power wiring shall be provided by Electrical Contractor. An automatic control interlock shall be provided under Section 230993. External switches shall be guarded to prevent students from tampering with the on/off operation.

StartUp and Test: Provide unit startup service, performance test and report, operating instructions and manuals, and warranties against defective labor and material.

Extra Filters and Motors: Provide (1) spare set of filters for each unit for replacement and (1)spare motor for each motor size furnished with the unit ventilators.

Piping: Where practical, the piping should be moved to accommodate the new Univent coil piping arrangement. Presently, piping on old Univents are generally on the left and right sides of the units. On newer Univents, the piping is either on the right or left sides only. If piping is to be run between the floor and the bottom of the Univent, there shall be provisions made for air movement to prevent the freezing of the piping. Piping shall be covered with an approved form of insulation.

UNIT VENTILATOR SCHEDULE

Refer to Drawings for schedules.
